Court denies Islamic divorce (Man's attempt to circumvent state law is rejected)

Saying "I divorce thee" three times, as men in Muslim countries have been able to do for centuries when leaving their wives, is not enough if you're a resident of Maryland, the state's highest court ruled yesterday.

Yesterday, the Court of Appeals rejected a Pakistani man's argument that his invocation of the Islamic talaq, under which a marriage is dissolved simply by the husband's say-so, allowed him to part with his wife of more than 20 years and deny her a share of his $2 million estate.

The justices affirmed a lower court's decision overturning a divorce decree obtained in Pakistan by Irfan Aleem, a World Bank economist who moved from London to Maryland with his wife, Farah Aleem, in 1985.

Obviously he’s not familiar with that movie scene in “Blind Date” with Kim Bassinger and the “no speaku engrish” Japanese wife in the ladies room.

Good. When Barry Osama gets in, I expect that one of his first acts will be to somehow ensure that sharia is treated as the equivalent of US law. This means that he will use the probably 3 Supreme Court appointments that he will get to install people favorable to this. And the Dems, who will still be in the majority in Congress, will love this and approve whatever wacky Islamist loony he appoints.

Eventually, sharia will replace US law, but it will start simply by being given equivalency to it, and clever Muslims will not immediately do things like stone homosexuals. What they will do is get polygamy (basically, female slavery) legalized and put into place various preferences for Islam and Islamic practices.

We’re in for some hard times.

Will he appeal the ruling?

I find Moslems the most pushy group of people that I have ever met.

God bless the judge! Hope his wife divorces him and gets her share of the estate. Then maybe he’ll realize that he’s really not in Pakistan anymore. If he wants sharia, then GO HOME!

Well, their pushy because you, as an unbeliever, are beneath dog crap in their eyes.

You have no right to dispute a Muslim in anything.

On what do you base this opinion?

If we had any leadership from the president and other high ranking elected officials, they’d have been speaking out for years telling new arrivals that some of their old customs just wouldn’t fly in the US. But it seems that would now be considered insensitive, or something.

Instead we get nonsense about the “Religion of Peace” and how a tintsy tiny group of radicals hijacked on of the world’s great religions.

I find Moslems the most pushy group of people that I have ever met.

The militant homosexual movement is also very pushy. Wonder who will win when these two groups finally go head to head.

I find Muslims the most hateful and intollerant people I have ever met and I find Western politicians the most moronic and gutless people for letting Islam take over their culture.

I wonder what the response will be from the many American female Muslim converts in the US if it happened to them.

This is interesting... While I can't speak for any other religions, in Judaism, in the US, to get married or divorced, you actually need 2 of them... In the case of marriage, when you're married by an ordained Rabbi, you get sort of a "two for one" where you get both the religious AND the civil marriage. In the case of a divorce, there's the religious divorce, as well as the civil divorce, and they come from two different groups. In Judaism, if you don't get both, you're only partially married or divorced. If you only get the civil divorce, you're still married in the eyes of The Lord. If you're only divorced in the religious court, you're still civilly married, and responsible, but now you're "living in sin."
