As Sir Winston Churchill said:

"Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

This quote is ironic when you realize that in England now, NO MENTION of Winston Churchill will be in the text books! (as of last summer) Were it not for Churchill, they would all have grown up speaking German...

I don't know how much protest there was in England itself, but there was a hue and cry from us on this side of the pond - I was in contact with Churchill's grandson - a member of Parliament - who emailed me with this included; "

It is always a source of immense satisfaction that so many of your fellow countrymen cherish his memory and I can assure you that we, his family, are deeply grateful."

"Were it not for Churchill, they would all have grown up speaking German..."

Exactly! And none of them are thankful!

"I was in contact with Churchill's grandson - a member of Parliament - who emailed me with this included; " It is always a source of immense satisfaction that so many of your fellow countrymen cherish his memory and I can assure you that we, his family, are deeply grateful."

I was born 15 years after his "finest hour" speech, but everytime I hear one of his speeches played on TV, I cheer! Churchill was the only European politician with the spine and balls to stand up and spit in Hitler's eye. If he hadn't done so, we all might be speaking German, as FDR at the time couldn't move the isolationist public and Congress to see the danger Hitler (and Tojo) were to the world. No, Churchill was not perfect. But I cherish and bless his memory.
