OK, how about the Boren-Goldwater bill to limit campaign financing a la McCain-Feingold? Never made it to President Reagan's desk (died in the House), but he supported it.

McCain-Leiberman? How about President Reagan supporting and endorsing the Venice Economic Summit (1987) including its calls to "encourage efforts to tackle effectively environmental problems of worldwide impact such as stratospheric ozone depletion, climate change, acid rains, endangered species, hazardous substances, air and water pollution and destruction of tropical forests."

Gang of 14? Reagan compromised plenty, and worked with the Democrat-controlled Congress to get his agenda through. See the quote earlier in this thread.

Amnesty - yes, he SIGNED IT. Made it law. At least the current Administration is actually BUILDING fences...

So please, go on... It appears that you forget some of the actions of Reagan and simply want to whine and pout that you didn't get your chosen candidate, so rather than support someone you agree with on a multitude of issues (pro-life, strong military, low taxes, reduced government spending - need we go on?) you'll gladly support an Obama or Hillary presidency.

You don't have another choice - you choose not to support McCain you are de-facto supporting Obama or Hillary. And you're ignoring the vast number of issues you agree with McCain on.

This election is not a referendum on Reagan; it is a referendum on McCain. But since you insist on trying to promote McCain by tearing down a dead man who can't defend himself, I'll do it for him.

"OK, how about the Boren-Goldwater bill to limit campaign financing a la McCain-Feingold? Never made it to President Reagan's desk (died in the House), but he supported it."

Boren-Goldwater didn't directly limit free speech before an election, nor can I find, despite extensive research, any indication that Reagan supported it.

"McCain-Leiberman? How about President Reagan supporting and endorsing the Venice Economic Summit (1987) including its calls to..."

He attended the summit, but I can find no indication in his June 15, 1987 speech to the American people about the summit where he supported any of that. In fact, he didn't even mention it. He did, however, get the Euros to agree with much of HIS agenda.

"It appears that you forget some of the actions of Reagan..."

I haven't forgotten what never happened. You are attempting to revise the history of the Reagan years to make McCain's conservative apostasy palatable. It will not work. Presidents compromise, and even Reagan didn't not govern 100% conservately, nor do we have the right to expect that. But as you said in your post, Reagan worked with the Democrat-controlled Congress to get HIS agenda, not their agenda, through. McCain's agenda, in key policy areas, IS THE SAME AGENDA as the Democrats.
