Hillary Clinton’s Suicidal Gamble with Race Poison
Times Online ^ | May 11, 2008 | Andrew Sullivan

Posted on 05/11/2008 11:37:14 AM PDT by freerepublic_or_die

From the very beginning, the premise and the promise of Barack Obama’s campaign was that it would transcend race. And last autumn the Obama team also knew this was the only way it could win.

The Clinton brand among black voters was so strong, so unbreakable, so resilient a force that even the first credible black candidate for the presidency remained stuck 20-30% behind Hillary Clinton among African-American voters. She was, after all, the wife of the “first black president”, as the author Toni Morrison called Bill.

She had almost all the black political establishment behind her. Her husband, from his days in Arkansas during the civil rights movement, had forged a deep, durable bond with black America. And Obama’s only hope as a young insurgent was in winning a surprise victory in Iowa or New Hampshire, where black votes were close to nonexistent.

A biracial man reared by one white mother and two white grandparents knew that his ability to touch and inspire white voters was his greatest strength. Especially among younger voters, it was critical. And this appeal wasn’t geared only to white audiences. I will not forget a rally over a year ago, filled with predominantly black donors and activists, when Obama recounted how a supporter greeted him at the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s march on Selma.

“That was a great celebration of African-American history,” the supporter said, to which Obama immediately responded: “No, no, no, no, no. That was not a great celebration of African-American history. That was a celebration of American history.” The postracial appeal wasn’t just about necessity. It was also Obama’s core conviction about his own political message.

Ho-hum. So tell me something I don't know. By now, the Clintons' modus operandi is all too familiar, perhaps a bit too familiar.

And maybe that's the life-enervating force that propels them beyond the political seeming impossible, that other politcians with a modicum of morality,self-respect, respect would have quit a long time ago.

You see, the Clintons know this and simply leverage it to their benefit, advantage.

They get away with all sorts of unscrupulous shenanigans that would have made Machiavelli blush. That's their secret weapon, that's how Hillary manages to still be in the running because there's nothing too low, too sinister, too smarmy, too unctuous for the Clintons not to perpetuate if its means getting the electorate to do their bidding.

We don't expect honesty, integrity, morality from the Clintons, and they know it, and so, they continue to prevail, to be in the running, to be viable because that's the Clinton way.

Actually, she has a solid point. Snoboma has turned off a core constituency with his followers elitism and his own racial games. This whole talk of her being a racist is part of a widespread campaign to force her out of the race before she can prove her point by winning some more states.

The black (sorry, African American) political class has lined up 98% behind Obama, and anyone who disagrees with them must be a racist. At least that’s how they come across on the media.

It’s funny that a lot of leftist eyes are finally opening re: the Clintons. And it’s also ironic to see the Clintons, of all people, fall victim to liberal media bias... after it served their purposes so well for so many years.

Exactly right, as difficult as it may be to admit.

By the way, this article's by Andrew Sullivan who, to quote Christopher Hitchens "wants to have Obama's baby."

*sigh*

Sullivan is such a tool. Is there anyone on the planet who actually believes this tripe? Obeyme's campaign has been all about race since the inception. His was a "Stand there with a booger hanging from his nose and dare you to mention it" campaign of intimidation. Does anyone believe that BHO doesn't embrace BLT (even if just passively)?

The Dhimmis are so used to telling each other lies that they can no longer keep track...

Exactly. Credit your adversaries their strengths and never underestimate them.

The press knew who the Clintons were years ago. IIRC, the 60 Minutes interview that did CPR on Bill's campaign after the Gennifer Flowers story broke took quite a while to set up. They selected the positioning of Hillary slightly below Bill, and stopped the videotaping several times to coach him on how to respond.

Time and several others spiked the Monica story before Drudge broke it. They knew. It's just that Bill was THEIR man, then.

Hillary, however, has gone from twisting to "Don't stop thinking about tomorrow" with, yes, a blue dress on, to standing around in mustard colored pant suits, looking like a combination of everybody's ex-wife and mother-in-law combined. Obama is even further left, and is a good public speaker. So Obama's the horse and they don't have to lie about the Clintons anymore.

I suppose you're right.

Turns out the "C" in CNN didn't stand for "Clinton" after all. It must stand for "Communist", instead...

Before Super Tuesday, Clinton campaign operatives aired rumours that Obama had been a drug dealer – hint, hint – in his younger days. When Obama scored a landslide in South Carolina, Bill Clinton reminded the media that Jesse Jackson had won the state as well. He called Obama a “kid”, perilously close to calling him a “boy”, prompting the former Clinton operative Donna Brazile to say: “I tell you, as an African-American, I find his words and his tone to be very depressing.” The black civil rights icon John Lewis switched from Clinton to Obama. When Clinton told white rural voters that Obama didn’t care about “people like you”, it stung.

Bill and Hill are shameless political@ssholes. She is a bloody-handed, murderous Witch. Michelle Obama was correct. No way should Obama allow her to run as his Veep. She would be too close to power -- hint, hint -- 'Nuff said here.

AS makes some good points about the Clintonistas, who are always scum..... but on Obama, AS must be delusional from dreaming of a “bareback” ride with the guy...... all the “post-racial” b.s. was just weak gruel for the gullible left. Obama has immersed himself for 20+ years in radical racist b.s. and we’re expected to accept that he believes none of it (in which case it was the most shameless and dishonest kind of opportunism for Obama to be part of a church with values he comprehensively rejects, just for his political advantage).

All the Clintons have done is expose that scumbag Obama for the racist snake-oil saleman he is. Anyone who believes that Obama is somehow less of a dangerous p.o.s. than either of the Clintons is a fool.

I would bet that Rezko has been given the McDougal/Hubbell ultimatum - - you talk, you die.
It's just the way the rats play the game.

They have NOW - after the clinton's trashed them in South Carolina.

Mainly because Hillary trash talked MLK and JFK.

It is the same reason she alienated the Kennedies.
