More Obama Foreign Policy Thinking
http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=ZjUzYzFlNzcyNmUzZjlkOTIwNmJmOGQ2N2M2OWNiZmI=
Here's Barry Rubin of the Gloria Center explicating Obama's stance on Lebanon:
When Senator and presidential candidate Barack Obama says he will negotiate with Syria and Iran over Iraqs future, he signals every Persian Gulf regime to cut its own deal with Iran. When his stances convince Hamas that hes the guy for them; when Iran and Syria conclude they merely need stand defiant and wait until January 21 for any existing pressure vanishes, the U.S. position in the Middle East is being systematically destroyed.
Note that this does not make Obama the candidate favored by Arabs in general but only by the radicals. Egyptians, Jordanians, Gulf Arabs, and the majorities in Lebanon and Iraq are very worried. This is not just an Israel problem; it is one for all non-extremists in the region.
If the dictators and terrorists are smiling, it means everyone else is crying.
The Syrian and Iranian regimes know that while they may walk through the valley of the shadow of sanctions they need fear nothing because there are all too many who comfort them.
After all, if the UN human rights committee is run by Libya, if UNIFIL forces in Lebanon tread lightly so Hizballah wont be angry with them, if Westerners tremble and repeal freedom of speech lest some Muslims be offended, why should the bad guys worry? ...
If you want to know whats wrong, consider Obamas May 10 statement on Lebanon. He starts out playing tough, talking about Hezbollah's power grab in Beirut .This effort to undermine Lebanon's elected government needs to stop, and all those who have influence with Hezbollah must press them to stand down immediately. He calls for supporting the Lebanese government, strengthening the Lebanese army, and to insist on disarming Hezbollah.
But how to do this? By working with the international with the international community and the private sector to rebuild Lebanon and get its economy back on its feet.
In other words, according to the Obama world view, its a problem of development. If people have more money they wont be terrorists. Of course, that was the policy of Hariri, which was countered by Syria blowing him up. In politics, bombs trump business. And any way you cant have a strong economy with no government and chaos. Part of the mistake here is Obamas assumption that Hizballah (and other radicals) want stability and prosperity. In fact, they want to use instability as blackmail in their pursuit of power. They dont want conciliation. Its a military-strategic problem, not one of community organizing.
The statement continues: We must support the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions that reinforce Lebanon's sovereignty, especially resolution 1701 banning the provision of arms to Hezbollah, which is violated by Iran and Syria.
Great. But the UN is no substitute for U.S. power. As David Schenker of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy writes, It is highly unlikely that the UN which failed to even prevent the rearming of Hizballahwould agree to more dangerous deployments in Lebanon. America doesnt need a president whose solution is to turn over crises to the UN.
Nor can Obama pass the buck to Lebanons army. Its commander is Syrias presidential candidate, its soldiers are mostly pro-Hizballah, and the quarter-billion dollars of U.S. aid given since 2006 may well become additional assets for Tehran. ...
But heres the worst part that few in America but everyone in Lebanon will understand all too well:
It's time to engage in diplomatic efforts to help build a new Lebanese consensus that focuses on electoral reform, an end to the current corrupt patronage system, and the development of the economy that provides for a fair distribution of services, opportunities and employment. Here, make no mistake, Obama is endorsing the Hizballah program. It wants a new Lebanese consensus based on it having, along with its pro-Syrian allies, 51 percent of the power. Whats needed is not consensus (the equivalent being getting Fatah and Hamas to bury their differences, or bringing in Iran and Syria to determine Iraqs future) but the willingness to fight a battle. In effect, Obama without realizing it, is arguing for a Syrian-, Iranian-, and Hizballah-dominated Lebanon. Such talk makes moderate Arabs despair.

This guy gets it!
Quite oxymoronic.
Barack is a Muslim Moron. Now, jump in there and tell me that he is not a Muslim but a Christian. Who by the way, gave a speech several years ago making fun of the Bible,
Where would Nobama be today if he had a high pitched effeminant voice? He’s all talk and dangerously incompetent.
I'm willing to take his conversion seriously, so no, I don't think he's a Muslim. I do think is affinity for their world view becomes an issue. As to religion, I find his Church and his belief in Black Liberation theology and the Black Value System quite disturbing. Actually a disqualifier for someone who aspires to lead non-blacks. And there's some foreign policy significance to the fact that Muslims will consider him an apostate Muslim, but I couldn't care less what they think about that, they don't like Christians, Jews or women either.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs
February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com
A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.
The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:
Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.
First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]
Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.
I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.
I will not weaponize space.
I will slow our development of future combat systems.
And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.
Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.
You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

"unproven" missile defense systems???
Hey Barack, check THIS out!
(U.S. Dept of Defense video of shootdown of US spy satellite)
2007 Chinese anti-satellite missile test:
The 2007 Chinese anti-satellite missile test was conducted by China on January 11, 2007. A Chinese weather satellite the FY-1C polar orbit satellite of the Fengyun series, at an altitude of 865 kilometres (537 mi), with a mass of 750 kg[1] was destroyed by a kinetic kill vehicle traveling with a speed of 8 km/s in the opposite direction[2] (see Head-on engagement). It was launched with a multistage solid-fuel missile from Xichang Satellite Launch Center or nearby.

Obama Promises to Dismantle Our Armed Forces
by Robert Maginnis

(Mr. Maginnis is a retired Army lieutenant colonel, a national security and foreign affairs analyst for radio and television and a senior strategist with the U.S. Army)
YouTube has an undated 52-second clip of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barrack Obama outlining his plans for Americas national defense. Obamas presentation demonstrates either total naivete about important national security programs or he is just pandering for votes among the extreme left.

Note: Although I sent Human Events the ORIGINAL youtube video several weeks ago (original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE ) and asked that they replace the copy they refer to (copy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl32Y7wDVDs ), they still have not yet done so. The original comes directly from the Obama camp itself and so is a lot more credible. In any case, Col Maginnis does an excellent in-depth must read analysis of Obama's proposed defense policies (see: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?print=yes&id=25942).

New Pentagon Report: China's Growing Military Space Power
By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008
GOLDEN, Colorado A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.
Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.
Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

Russia, China flex muscles in joint war games
Reuters: Aug 17, 2007
CHEBARKUL, Russia (Reuters) - Russia and China staged their biggest joint exercises on Friday but denied this show of military prowess could lead to the formation of a counterweight to NATO.
"Today's exercises are another step towards strengthening the relations between our countries, a step towards strengthening international peace and security, and first and foremost, the security of our peoples," Putin said.
Fighter jets swooped overhead, commandos jumped from helicopters on to rooftops and the boom of artillery shells shook the firing range in Russia's Ural mountains as two of the largest armies in the world were put through their paces.
The exercises take place against a backdrop of mounting rivalry between the West, and Russia and China for influence over Central Asia, a strategic region that has huge oil, gas and mineral resources.
Russia's growing assertiveness is also causing jitters in the West. Putin announced at the firing range that Russia was resuming Soviet-era sorties by its strategic bomber aircraft near NATO airspace.

I was dead serious about this. He was taught the Muslim faith at a young age and I sincerely believe it carry’s over. Just as what I was taught at a young age carried over to the present from 60 years ago or so.
...but I am the one who YOU are going to get.
I know, but if he says he’s a Christian I’d leave it at that. Whether he’s now a Muslim is not something that can be established, and it distracts from the real issues in that regard. His current religious beliefs, which are highly political in nature and racially charged. And his “affinity” for and understanding of Islamic terrorists, based on his Muslim upbringing. Which he’s now raised as a legitimate issue.
This is well documented but ignored even by the likes of Rush, Hannity and our own Levin.
Yup, that should be highlighted. His cousin, who supports the establishment of sharia in Keyna. My guess it will come up.
One wonders when...
