Cherie Blair's memoirs: Why don't we watch a movie? A Brit from the Left, a Texan from the Right, but we all got on - and nobody can tell me George Bush doesn't have a sense of humour Cherie Blair
Ifirst met George Bush at Camp David ... shortly after he took over as President. From our visits to Washington we had got to know Al Gore, the Democratic candidate, and his wife Tipper, reasonably well, so I think it's fair to say that our hearts sank when the result was finally ratified. Bush was, after all, a Republican. In fact, Tony felt very strongly that Gore was playing it wrong and that he should have used Bill [Clinton] more, not distanced himself from him. He seemed not to realise how much goodwill Bill still commanded, and he is one of the great communicators.
We had watched George W on television and felt that he didn't seem comfortable with foreign affairs, yet Tony was determined that they should have a good relationship. Others of our party - notably Alastair [Campbell] and Sally [Morgan] - had a more mixed view. Let's face it, I said. He's probably not looking forward to it much either. He knows we're friends of the Clintons, and he also knows you're a Labour Prime Minister and all the rest of it, so everybody's going to be a bit nervous, everybody's going to want to try and get along.

Cherie, your being influenced by a sociopathic liar and proven rapist shows your lack of common sense. You can go now. Your access to the United States has been revoked. Go live in Euro-misery.
Hey Cherie . . .Picture Al Gore on 9/11 and the days following.
Nuff said.
I don’t know... I found this piece to be a very positive and quite honest account from her. She might be a European leftist, but she could see how warm and smart the Bushes are in person. Something that many Europeans (and many Americans) cannot simply because of their hatred.
“George is actually a very funny, charming man with a quirky sense of humour. The reason he gets a bad press, he says, is because I talk Texan. Bill Clinton was also from the South, but while Clinton may talk Southern, he doesn’t think Southern, whereas Bush thinks Texan.” . . . ‘nuf said!!
Cherie, you are clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer. However, your husband rose above any personal feelings about George W. or about Bill Clinton and stood tall when he needed to stand tall. All during the Clinton years, I thought Tony was little more than a limp-wristed sycophant, laughing it up with one of the worst presidents in America’s history, but when he stood tall with George W. in the war on terror, I changed my mind about him. However, I have not changed my mind about you!
You can read her other chapters at the same URL. Interesting take on things - especially Bill & Monica..
Why in the world would you snipe at this woman now? You can disagree with her politics, which I certainly do, but I more than appreciate her maturity in understanding and supporting her country’s role in a very important special relationship with America.
Not many on the Left would be willing to be as honestly appreciative of a person with whom they had severe policy disagreements. So I say kudos for Cherie.
I'm pleasantly surprised.
Basically this diary shows the naivete that most libs foreign or domestic have about conservatives. She was amazed that Bush could string coherent sentences together without dissolving into a splenetic rage. It would be wonderful for Thomas Sowell to have a heart to heart with Cherie Blair and other ignorant libs so they could discover exactly how ignorant they actually are.
” All during the Clinton years, I thought Tony was little more than a limp-wristed sycophant, laughing it up with one of the worst presidents in Americas history, but when he stood tall with George W. in the war on terror, I changed my mind about him. However, I have not changed my mind about you!”
So, when he was best mates with Clinton, his ideological fellow traveller, you thought he was a ‘limp wristed sycophant’, but the spectacle of him ‘standing tall’ (i.e. sucking up) to his opposite Bush caused you to change his mind about him? Does this make sense to anyone else?
