Federal authorities charged that a methamphetamine laboratory was operating at the nation's largest kosher slaughterhouse and that employees carried weapons to work.
The charges were among the most explosive details to emerge following the massive raid Monday at Agriprocessors in Postville, Iowa.
In a 60-page application for a search warrant, federal agents revealed details of their six-month probe of Agriprocessors. The investigation involved 12 federal agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the departments of labor and agriculture.
According to the application, a former plant supervisor told investigators that some 80 percent of the workforce was illegal. They included rabbis responsible for kosher supervision, who the source believed entered the United States from Canada without proper immigration documents. The source did not provide evidence for his suspicion about the rabbis.
The source also claimed to have confronted a human resources manager with Social Security cards from three employees that had the same number. The manager laughed when the matter was raised, the source said.
At least 300 people were arrested Monday during the raid, for which federal authorities had rented an expansive fairground nearby to serve as a processing center for detainees.
The search warrant application said that 697 plant employees were believed to have violated federal laws.
Agriprocessors officials did not return calls from JTA seeking comment.

OK...here’s some under-reported news from this...
Sometime last year, the ownership/management of the plant argued in a federal NLRB hearing that the worker’s attempt to organize a union should be null & void because they (the workers) were not eligible to work because they were illegals.

I didn't see that in this article, what was the source? I thought that the SSA was barred with sharing SS# mismatches with any agency per a Clinton executive order. Including the IRS, which could dun for taxes, but not undertake criminal investigations based on the data. An executive order which should have been rescinded by the end of Feb, 2001. Allowing a month to move in and clean up after the Clintons.
Let's hope that included in that number were all of management and the entire HR Department...

I read the book "Postville" by Steven Bloom. Very interesting reading. I don't live too far from there (Holmen, Wisconsin). There are thousands of Hispanic and eastern European immigrants in the area who work in slaughterhouses, chicken processing plants, and other venues doing jobs that the homegrown locals aren't real keen on performing. There is now an interesting mix of cultures. The end result of this remains to be seen.

Here it is 2008, at least 4000 more anchor babies have been born, figuring on 500 a year from the 700 illegal alien employees.
When I start looking at what is going to be coming over the horizen in a few years and it doesn’t look good. The youngsters had better learn to speak Spanish.
I’ll bet the locals were keen on doing those jobs for many, many years before the illegals showed up and stole the jobs by undercutting their salaries. Just some fat cat at the top getting richer on slave labor. Meantime, IMO, they would have us believe that Americans won’t do these jobs. Soooo not true. Just a bunch of OBL b.s. rhetoric.
There are also some allegations that some of the rabbis were illegal aliens. Here illegally from Canada. I mean the rabbis involved in the kosher certification at this meat packing plant

I knew a person who worked at a chicken processing plant. He couldn't stand it, and quit it when he found something less distasteful. The plant never payed great wages, and probably never will. If you can find me a sizable perecentage of young native-born Americans who are willing to work at these kinds of places I will agree with you.
