FORWARD OPERATING BASE LOYALTY, Iraq – Special Groups criminals fired an 82 mm mortar at a Coalition force base that missed its target and landed near a market in the Karadah security district of Baghdad at 11:32 p.m. May 13.
Approximately 30 minutes after the initial attack, the market near the impact of the criminal’s attack burned down. It is not known at this time if the incidents are related; however, Coalition force officials from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), are investigating an Iraqi National Police report attributing the cause of the fire to faulty electrical wiring on a generator.
Leaders of 4th BCT, 10th Mtn. Div., confirmed no Coalition forces or aircraft were in the vicinity of the market before or during the mortar attack or the market fire.
“These Special Groups criminals are indiscriminately endangering the lives of innocent Iraqi civilians. This is typical of the cowards who target Iraqi citizens and show no concern for Iraq and its future,” said Maj. Joey Sullinger, spokesman for 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light). “Our hearts go out to our Iraqi neighbors who lost their livelihoods in the market fire.”

“Criminals?” I guess it’s a new fad in the MSM. I find it a bit confusing. To me a “Criminal” is someone like Al Capone, or maybe one of the purse-snatching Bad Guys that we get to chase down in dark alleys...
I guess all Terrorists are Criminals, but not all Criminals are terrorists. Sounds to me like al Qaeda just got an upgrade.

Hmmmm... thanks for the correction. Presumably they had a good reason? Even so, I think it is an “innovation” of dubious merit.
Whatever happened to people telling things like it is? If they are “terrorists” in fact, and if they run around with towels on their heads and explosives in their pockets, and if they all have their shirts untucked, and if they all worship Allah, and if they all are in a bad need of a wash and a good shave, then “Terrorist” describes them beautifully, and people immediately understand what that means.
Calling them “Criminals” — while true to an extent — merely clouds over the issue that they are also violent Islamic Terrorists: a very precise form of Criminality.

I’ve noticed that they’re calling them criminals in a lot of reports now. When you change the wording you change the way people think about things.
