HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.
Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.
Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.
A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.
Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.
He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.
Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.
Mod Note: We're watching this thread and are more than happy to hand out suspensions
Mary Jo.......
I hope this thread goes better than the last.
There is not a damn thing to joke about with a stroke.
May the Lord’s Will be done.
Not my thread, but don’t make the moderator babysit. You know, my mama said, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
looks like he is intubated (I think the purple thing is an ambu bag)
This could be quite serious.
Prayers for his recovery and healthful retirement
Last thread got pulled. This is big news with a lot of repercussions and it should not be put in the dustbin.
The last thread just got pulled. The mods were having to delete every other comment.
Lets keep it respectable.
No new news?
I’ve already heard a rumor that he died 30 minutes ago.
Wow, speechless...I don’t like the mans politics, but don’t wish anything bad on him.
They just zotted the other breaking news on this.
IBTZ!
I guess they didn’t want to moderate it, but there is too much interest to ignore.
Ted Kennedy? Whos that?

(In another thread I pointed out that maybe Mass Gov could appoint Joe Kennedy in his place if the need arises. I’ve since been reminded that in ‘04 when it looked like Kerry
might poss. win, the MA legislature changed the rules so
governors (Romney was Gov at the time) could no longer
do this. I stand corrected.) MA current governor is a Dem
of course (& a pal of Barrack)
Where did you hear this?
where did you here that???
The nicest thing I can think of right now is: “....”
Well, crud. It didn’t last past post 9.
I will remain silent.
drudge is asleep on this one. It is quite possible that he died. We will have to wait and see. Will this pull in more sympathy for Obama?
Primaries must have been too much for him, wish him a speedy recovery.
We will be watched here people, show them how decent people respond to situations like this.
What happened to the last thread?
Hoping for the best Senator, stay strong.
I confess to restraining myself from expressing my own personal opinion about the Senator, and I’m more able to do so when I consider that many Freepers have been praying for our founder Jim Robinson in other threads, and I wouldn’t want anyone expressing less than cordial and polite (if not encouraging) thoughts towards Jim.
I’ve called for the Lord’s Will to be done in the case of Senator Kennedy, and I would like to believe he would ask for nothing more and nothing less himself.
I do not like Ted Kennedy. But I am sorry that he is ill and hope the best for him and his family. I also hope he goes into peaceful retirement away from the rigors of the Senate and politics.
Show a little class, OK?
You got that right. My husband had one a couple of years ago. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Prayers up for Sen. Kennedy. Hope he makes a full recovery.
Dead?
Where did you read that?
Prayers.
so , The Mod “pulled” the 1st thread
I stated that I hoped we ( FReepers ) could post in a respectful manner
think of JimRob , please
Prayers up for the family.
I agree. Like I said on the other thread I don’t like the things he has done or what he stands for, but I wish him health and hapiness.
another forum, someone claimed to hear it on local radio. who knows
the people of massachusetts have kept this guy on the public dole for too long.
he has been kept very comfortable at taxpayers expense.
Don’t forget that sometimes we have folks that aren’t Freepers posting on threads too just to make us look bad.
I do not like Kennedy. But, I wish him good health in every way.
lol!
Those times don’t look good for tPA treatment.

Wish him well.
(CBS/AP)2003 In one of the most pointed Democratic denunciations of the war in Iraq yet, Sen. Edward Kennedy on Thursday called the Bush administration’s case for going to war a fraud “made up in Texas” to give Republicans a political boost.
Where’d ya hear that?
MA likes Ted Kennedy. The rest of the country? Not so much.
The average American wouldn't get a pass if some chick dies in their car and they leave the scene of the accident.
I do hope he recovers. He is the best example of dems being able to get away with anything that we have in the Senate.
Excellent point! I’m still praying for Our Fearless Leader Jim.
God Bless Jim.
We are blessed that God gave us Jim!
no comment
with the intubation chances are he has a bleed - would not be a situation for tPA anyway. I hope he recovers fully and has a long retirement, but what we know so far doesn’t look good
I hope he's doing well.
My mother had one last year. Her brain was gone when they found her. It took 2 weeks for her body to give up. It was terrible.
Prayers for his family.
What is wrong with you?
For shame.
What does that mean? That he can’t breathe on his own? Is that consistent with a stroke? Prayers for the Senator.
