EASTON, Pa. - A former Bethlehem woman will serve up to 23 months in prison for having her 7-year-old son dress as a Cub Scout to collect money for a nonexistent cause.
Sally Ann Gombocz, 51, told a Northampton County judge she wanted to apologize to anyone she hurt. She previously pleaded guilty to theft by deception and corruption of a minor.
Gombocz had her son dress as a scout in 2003 and tell people he was raising money for a camping trip. A prosecutor says the family collected $69.
Gombocz was sentenced Friday to six to 23 months in the county jail. She also was fined $2,000, ordered to perform community service, take parenting classes, have psychological counseling and submit to random urine screens. She also must pay restitution.

We're part of the Gulf Stream council here. Just had our final pack meeting last week. I tell you, Cub Scouts has been very good for us. We've met wonderful people and my son is spending more time playing with kids from the den than kids in our neighborhood. We just seem to have more in common with the Scout parents and kids and they are, in general, a far higher quality of people.

You're not kidding. Remember this? I think this woman is getting a raw deal to be sentenced to almost two years over, IMO, a very low level of fraud. $69? Come on!

A former high-ranking Enron Corp. executive was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison yesterday by a federal judge who acknowledged the official's cooperation with prosecutors but refused to give him the substantial break he requested.
David W. Delainey, 40, led two of the Houston energy trader's most important divisions before Enron filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2001. He pleaded guilty to a single count of insider trading and became a central witness against former chief executives Kenneth L. Lay and Jeffrey K. Skilling in their fraud trial this year.
Delainey admitted to selling Enron stock at the same time he knew the company was manipulating its financial statements. As part of his October 2003 guilty plea, Delainey turned over about $8 million to the government to resolve criminal and civil charges.

I think you’ll find that is the case with scout families everywhere.
I had a really cool experience this past weekend. We took our Boy Scouts to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. We camped on base and went to Sunday Services at the base chapel. 25 dirty and smelly scouts were warmly welcomed into the chapel. The Chaplains wife was walking by with her young son who was about 6. She told me that he was going to be a Tiger Cub next year. So I got down on my knee and taught him the “secret” Cub Scout handshake. He was pretty excited.
In the six years we’ve been involved, we’ve met a ton of great people both in our unit and within the brotherhood of scouting.

Here's some info I got on it:
First come first served - Reservation are limited to 144 boys from the entire Gulf Stream Council.
Cost - There is a substantial cost - see attachments. Time and age - The Jamboree happens only once overy ~ four years. This next jamboree will be held 7/21/10 - 8/5/10.
Yes, that's right - 2010. Boys must be between the ages of at least 12 and less than 18 on 7/1/10. This means this is a once in a lifetime event for many Boy Scouts.
Please read over ALL the information carefully and discuss with your families.
Here's the kicker: Cost is estimated at $2,200 per Scout for us, but that includes transportation. They have a payment plan. We're still up in the air over it because $2,200 is a good chunk of summer camp for both kids.
