Likely Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama told supporters Iran is just a tiny country at a campaign stop in Oregon Sunday evening.
"Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us, Obama said.
Obamas rivals, including his fellow Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton, have criticized Obama for his willing to meet with Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.
Presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain issued a strong retort to Obama's assessment at a stop in Chicago on Monday. "The biggest national security challenge the United States currently faces is keeping nuclear material out of the hands of terrorists," McCain said. "Should Iran acquire nuclear weapons, that danger would become very dire, indeed. They might not be a superpower, but the threat the Government of Iran poses is anything but "'tiny.'"
Combative exchanges between Obama and McCain over negotiations with Iran dominated the medias coverage of the 2008 election last week. From the podium of the National Rifle Associations national conference McCain said, I have some news for Senator Obama: Talking, not even with soaring rhetoric, in unconditional meetings with the man who calls Israel a 'stinking corpse' and arms terrorists who kill Americans will not convince Iran to give up its nuclear program.
It is reckless to suggest that unconditional meetings will advance our interests," McCain said.
Obama seemed to brush off these concerns about Irans threats while campaigning in Oregon. Iran, they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance, Obama said.
An excellent point.
Facts have no place in any debate involving Barack Obama.
Here is what wikipedia says about that:
(The Cuban Missile crisis) “ended two weeks later on October 28, 1962, when President of the United States John F. Kennedy and United Nations Secretary-General U Thant reached an agreement with the Soviets to dismantle the missiles in Cuba in exchange for a no invasion agreement and a secret removal of the Jupiter and Thor missiles in Turkey.”
The point is negotiation was backed by US military force and the credible threat to use that force. Concessions were made on both sides, but the USSR lost the most.
We need to make sure everyone we know understands how incompetent Barry O. is, saying there are 57 states, calling Iran ‘tiny,’ and offering to negotiate without preconditions.
Isn’t treating with the enemy treason? The question of Iran isn’t really significant. I am sure we will be at war with them by Election Day.
NO BO N 08! (Mr BO is an idiot!)
Lay off what the Obamessiah says...how dare you be so racist?

Tiny? Obama is a moron. First off, it is hardly “tiny” at roughly 1/5 our population and 1/6 our landmass. It also has enormous natural resources and a key geostrategic position. It also has leaders with a strategic vision and the (not so tiny) b@lls to carry it out, even if that means spilling lots of innocent blood.
Oh, yeah, and one more thing: Obomination is probably not even aware of Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). One fairly sizeable nuke exploded high above Kansas would disable much of the electronics in the CONUS, with effects just a BIT larger than “tiny.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse
Obomination is a naive, ill-informed, anti-American PUTZ. We simply CANNOT allow that man and his minions/hangers-on to attain power. I don’t like McCain at all, but ANYONE is preferable to this walking, talking disaster.
Awesome video:
The same kind of terrorists who support Obama did this:

Never apologize for them.
Never appease them.
Never forget.
I'm not sure--is he a gibbering idiot, or does he just think we are all idiots? Either way, he is not presidential material.
But not nukes. Or stateless surrogate armies of suicidal terrorist infiltrators.
That 3G model of population, wealth and industrial base isn't extremely useful in assymetric warfare vs the US. Hence the term assymetric.
Iran is nothing more than hot air.
“Pretty much all the wars we ever fought in this nation have been against “tiny” countries: England, Spain, Mexico, North Korea, North Vietnam, Iraq...”
That’s an interesting way to look at it.
Of course he doesn't. Obama doesn't even know how many states there are.
Someone should give Obama a map. Iran is among major nations both per territory and population. And its economy and technology are above 3rd world.
It certainly might be a threat in a same sense Germany and Japan were.
