Gun deaths and gun violence are a national scourge that must be met with strict common-sense gun laws, to prevent rampant violence in society. Everyone is affected, so everyone must be subject to controls.
The Uninvited Ombudsman notes however that:
In an effort to prove the “news” myth paraphrased above, The Baltimore Sun, which features standard anti-gun-rights bias in its reporting, published an interactive map of homicides in the Baltimore area.
Unfortunately for its inventors, the map only confirms what rights advocates have been declaring for decades — it’s not a gun problem, it’s a demographic problem — with social, economic and geographic components the political community refuses to admit. If they did, the fundamentally demographic nature of the enigma would emerge, and despite the horrifying facts, they would risk being called bad names.
The maps say it all. The data sets here are for all of 2007, Baltimore area, all forms of homicide (blue is choking, green is blunt force, red is shooting, black is stabbing, white is undetermined).
And don’t shoot me, I’m only the messenger, blame the newspaper for letting the dirty little secret out — it’s not a gun or murder problem, it’s a demographic problem.
These Baltimore Sun maps show a terrible problem but do not clarify who the murderers are.

Clearly racism is involved here, so that charge should take all the killers off the street toot sweet, regardless of their race.

Going on a suggestion someone made earlier, the rational thing for an anti-gunner to want here would be to make gun ownership illegal for blacks.
On thing that has always bothered me is the “stop black on black crime” theme. The obvious implication is that if you are going to kill, why not kill whitey instead.
What they really want is murderers to be unbiased and kill just as many blacks as whites. One for one ratio.
Actually this isn't exactly true...the 3.5MM number is the entire Baltimore-Washington Metro area which is a HUGE expanse extending from NE Maryland into Eastern West Virginia. Baltimore PROPER, which is reflected on the map is 64.34% Black or African American, 31.63% White.
Furthermore, the areas these crimes occurred are mostly Black neighborhoods.
That can be inferred, but its not shown. Only the victims are shown. If the perp information was available, it would likely be exactly what you infer and even worse than what the victims' race would indicate.
why are we still asking the race of an individual? That should be against the law.
Or to use lefty logic, "guns don't kill, black people do," and endorse exile of black people, or Sangerization.
Or we could all just be reasonable and close the public schools, endorse family values and throw out the gun laws.
Clearly there are several things wrong with this:
1. Where are the Asian and Hispanic murders? Clearly the city needs to take appropriate measures to increase those numbers.
2. The push pin colors are all wrong. Clearly stabbings cause more blood than shootings. The stabbings should have red push pins and the shootings have black (for the color of gun powder).
3. The city needs to require their citizens to wear oven mitts at all times, in order to make choking more difficult to perform.
4. The push pins should be much smaller, in order to reduce the magnitude of the problem.
Fair enough, but I still don’t see a 2:1 ratio emerging from those maps.
The common factor among the murderers, regardless of race, I’d bet 90% had no father in the home growing up...

Whitey isn’t trying to move in on your corner where you sell drugs. Whitey isn’t trying to rob you of your stash. Whitey isn’t trying sell dope to your children. Whitey isn’t stoned three quarters of the time and making decisions that he’ll later regret. Life sucks when you aren’t sober.
Yep. And the govt might do well to rearrange the system (particularly welfare) to favor two-parent households and marriage, but of course that would be favoring those over the children of single parents, and that wouldn’t be fair to the chillllldren.
Gang bangers/drug dealers killing each other is not much of a concern for me. Innocent bystanders are different.

That’s what I don’t get when blacks try to blame their own much higher incarceration on racism, i.e., they claim whites commit as many crimes but get away with it...

There are 640,000 people in Baltimore. 405,000 are African-American.
Of that number 189,000 are African-American males (female-to-male ratio in Baltimore is 100:87.4).
Of that number, approximately 132,000 are African-American males under age 50 and approximately 85,000 of that number are African-American males between the ages of 18 and 50.
There were 282 homicides in Baltimore in 2007.
According to the map, 264 of the homicide victims were African-American, 248 of the homicide victims were African-American males, 242 of the homicide victims were African-American males under age 50 and 221 of the homicide victims were African-American males between the ages of 18 and 50.
In other words, African-American males between 18 and 50 are 13% of Baltimore's population and are 78% of Baltimore's homicide victims.
That means that approximately one out of every twelve 18 year old African-American males in the city of Baltimore can expect to be murdered by another African-American male before he reaches age 50.

Based on demographics and statistics I've seen, I'd expect a similar statistic for the likelyhood of an 18 year old African-American male to BE a murderer...and guess what...this isn't something that can be blamed on Whitey...
I guess it must be important - - Michelle Obama makes over $300,000/year as "diversity coordinator" at a Chicago hospital.
That's probably more like one in 30 or so - murderers usually aren't satisfied in committing just one.

It will be indirectly blamed on white people, as the purported source of the poverty of Baltimore's inner city.
The argument is that poverty creates anger and desperation, and anger and desperation lead to violence and murder.
However, I suspect that the leading rationale for most of these murders is "disrespect."
I don’t know the answer, but my chief complaint is that gun control imposed on me and most of America is based on minority crime statistics.

Maybe it can be blamed on Whitey. Rap music, which is produced by blacks, is raw, angry, explicit, and violent, and I believe it contributes a great deal to the culture of violence based on a macho ideal of pride. Rap artists promote themselves as rich, and give the impression that they got that way by selling drugs, pimping their women, stealing, and such. There have been cases of rap artists killing each other because of things they say about each other. I never heard of, say, Aerosmith trying to shoot Lynyrd Skynyrd.
A case could be made that blacks alone cannot purchase or market enough rap on their own to make it such an economic viability. I have empirical evidence that states that white kids consume more rap than black kids, on a percentage basis, even though black kids consume more rap on a per capita basis. My son and my stepson, both very white, are big fans of rap. They told me this.
Another point, look at the record companies, and see who owns them. I would bet that the people who own and run the big companies that actually package, ship, and market the rap industry are white-owned, exploiting a market the way TV and movies exploit sex.
What conservatives refuse to admit is that socialists regard American society as one giant family where we don't distinguish between these artificial social, economic and geographic components.
Gun violence is ALL our problem, brother comrades.

I posted a statement several years ago that violent crime was primarily committed by young black men on young black men and was called everything but a white man. Then I went to the DOJ and pulled the data that proved what I said. This only confirms what I have known fore years.
IF the Baltimore Sun map went further ans showed the race of the perps, it would also show that the vast majority of them were of the same race as the victim.
“Whitey” is the customer, not the competitor....You don’t kill the customer....

We cannot make progress in solving any problem unless we can be honest with the problem in the first place. Not so strangely, these same people insist that we didn't have terrorism until we started to get forceful with terrorists. Seems like the same defective and dangerous thinking drives domestic as well as foreign policy.

If you breakdown the number of people killed by cyclones or tsunamis by race, you could conclude that mother nature is a genocidal maniac.
It has Crimes for the major cities. I just added Chicago to my Google map extras. Haven't tried it yet.
No politician would admit to the demographic base of crime statistics directly. Indirectly however, they do promote redling cities to target blacks’ second amendment rights just as they have since antibellum times.
Unfortunately this impacts the rights of non-blacks.
One could come up with the same maps for any urban city with similar demographics.
Thus they have turned to the strawmen arguement of gun control.
