The Wisdom In Talking
By John F. Kerry Saturday, May 24, 2008; A21
As President Bush commemorated Israel's 60th anniversary by attacking Barack Obama from overseas, here at home he found an all-too-frequent ally: John McCain.
When Bush accused "some" -- including Obama, Bush aides explained -- of "the false comfort of appeasement," McCain echoed this slander.
"What does he want to talk about with [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad?" McCain asked, fumbling to link Obama to the Iranian president's hateful words. Soon, a GOP talking point was born.
Lost in the rhetoric was the question America deserves to have answered: Why should we engage with Iran?
In short, not talking to Iran has failed. Miserably.
Bush engages in self-deception arguing that not engaging Iran has worked. In fact, Iran has grown stronger: continuing to master the nuclear fuel cycle; arming militias in Iraq and Lebanon; bolstering extremist anti-Israeli proxies. It has embraced Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and spends lavishly to rebuild Afghanistan, gaining influence across the region.

I guess he should know what he’s talking about.
While American soldiers were dieing in Vietnam, he (while still commissioned in the USN) took it upon himself to commiserate with North Vietnamese leadership.
Wisdom and John Kerry in the same sentence?
This dumb dildock is the LAST person that should be advising anyone on foreign policy with respect to Iran.
Ok, so let’s talk then.
Iran kills American troops and vows to destroy Israel. Back to McCain’s question, “What do you want to talk about?”
Hey JK......the wise old owl kept his beak shut.
He is speaking at my son-in-law’s college graduation next week and he really wants us to go. Pray for us(lol)
John Kerry had a plan: To give nuclear fuel to Iran. Now Obama pledges cuts in our missile defense, space, and nuclear weapons programs while extending an olive branch to Iran, (pulling our troops from Iraq).
Every time Israel or the West have attempted to engage the Islamists, disaster has ensued. As a result of “engaging” Ayatollah Khomeini, for example, Jimmy Carter helped bring about the fall of the Shah, the American hostage debacle and 28 years of the Iranian jihad against the free world.
Moreover, far from refusing to have anything to do with Hamas, since 1991 Europe, America and Israel have all made repeated contacts with it through back channels. Yet far from moderating its stance, it has instead become even stronger through perceiving the weakness of a free world so desperate to mollify it.

From a December 2003 speech to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR):
"I have said before -- and I repeat today -- that the Bush administration should swallow its pride and reverse course. But the evidence is obviously strong that it lacks the wisdom or will to do so.
In fact, I fear that in the run-up to the 2004 election, the administration is considering what is tantamount to a cut-and-run strategy. Their sudden embrace of accelerated Iraqification and American troop withdrawal dates, without adequate stability, is an invitation to failure. The hard work of rebuilding Iraq must not be dictated by the schedule of the next American election.
I have called for the administration to transfer sovereignty, and they must transfer it to the Iraqi people as quickly as circumstances permit. But it would be a disaster and a disgraceful betrayal of principle to speed up the process simply to lay the groundwork for a politically expedient withdrawal of American troops. That could risk the hijacking of Iraq by terrorist groups and former Ba'athists. Security and political stability cannot be divorced. Security must come first, and that is why it is so imperative to succeed in building a genuine coalition on the ground in Iraq." ...more

Sign the 180 or STFU, Hanoi John!
Actually, the Eropeans have been talking to Iran for 9 years. That has failed miserably. Force has yet to be tried.
Jon Carry understands nothing about these issues - I’d just like to know whether John McCain is starting to realize how bad a decision it was to take a rip at the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth back in 2004?
Really, John McCain, why did you lend yourself to defending this POS Jon Carry? Look at how warmly he repays your collegial ‘friendship’?
John Kerry talking about wisdom is like Keith Richards talking about abstaining from drug use.
Maybe his man servant didn’t give him peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich before this was written.
