She was still impaired whether it was booze or pills.

How do you know that? Aren't people affected differently by alcohol/ prescription drugs? Sometimes you people who call yourself "conservatives" defend police state tactics out of irrational fears.

Call her up and let your kid ride with her.

I had a discussion about that a while back and I came to the conclusion that I'd rather be in a car with my mid twenty son driving after six beers than my eighty four year old father on his best day.

As we get older, our reflexes slow down, and our eyesight and hearing degrade. "Your best day" is your best day ever. After that, you become more and more "impaired" by the aging process.

If you're tire, sick, distracted by thinking about other things going on in your life, talking to other people in the car or on your cell phone, your driving skills will be impaired to the degree that these things take your attention from the road.

>>As an aside, a coworker admitted to me that she takes Xanax on a daily basis...”Sometimes 2 or 3”. I don’t get into a car if she’s driving.<<

I have some friends who can take 10 vicoden a day, taking 2 or three at a time. It’s ridiculous to me, even after I had just had abdominal surgery I could only take MAYBE 2 a day, and I had to take all kinds of anti-emetics with them.

Boggles my mind that folks get addicted to this stuff, it’s so nasty.

Why would I not want my kid to ride with her? She wasn't impaired (even if you declare it to be so). I have never been stopped for even a suspicion of DUI. I rarely take a drink, but I despise MADD with all my being. Do you think it is constitutional to forbid people charged with DUI to have a jury trial?

At least if you ride with them, you don't have to worry about them wanting to stop to look for a bathroom.

I made A’s in spelling try this, asshat. I love that people have so much time on their hands instead of arguing point they want to dissect grammar.

If you actually had comprehended what I had wrote, you would have seen I was criticizing your reading comprehension.

Which then, subsequently, you proved my point.

But seeing as you don't seem to comprehend what you read, I expect a rant back in which you take me to task for arguing against porcupine ownership.

I hate that my impediment has held me back for so long. I guess I had better reevaluate my success in life as measured by you instead of the things I have accomplished.

I have seen big strapping boys become impaired after one drink and pixie little girls drink a six pack and keep on trucking.

It sounds like you're the mayor of Imaginationtown, quite frankly.

Wow! No pro-porcupine rant! I'm impressed!

I am glad you recognize your impediment. The first step towards solving a problem is admitting it. Good luck in your efforts!

Just someone who has spent lots of time in reality dealing with these issues, unlike most here who seem to have become experts from the safety of their laptops.

Arguing from a point of perceived superiority: the true mark of a Freeper newbie.

I'm sure it happens all the time out in the real world . . . everywhere you see, three hundred pound linebackers are passing out cold after pounding back half a Bartle's and James' wine cooler, and one hundred and five pound female gymnasts are slugging back bottle after bottle of Everclear, yet can still recite Pi 75 places to the right of the decimal point while balancing a stack of dinner plates on their head.

I’m 5’11” and I weigh about 240 lbs. Any more, one beer puts me to sleep. Twenty years ago I could drink like a fairly thirsty fish, but no longer.

Quite frankly, the more you post to this thread, the more I'm convinced you've never left that space immediately behind mommy's apron.

Heck, the cop may have just cited her for DUI when he really wanted to do it for an appalling lack of common sense.

Hey maybe you have something there. Let's just make STUPID against the law and jail 'em all. Starting with Liberals in and out of gevernment, and on down thru the cops and the Prosecutors in this case.

Based on the above reply, he may have a point. Maybe you'd better read #37 again.

It may be a law (not sure about Texas) but it isn't a good one IMO) I feel it isn't the waitress, the bar owner, the clerk that sales a can in a bag or anyone else's responsibility to control someone's drinking but we do have to follow the law. That said, if we see a kid in the road or a house on fire as good citizens I hope we respond. If I saw someone that appeared intoxicated and getting ready to drive , I would say something or file a FYI report. I've actually called 911 a few times, about people driving on the wrong side of the road, or all over the road. They might have just reached back to smack a kid or pick something up but if they are drunk they need to be stopped for their safety and others.
