Yes, we should vote. I voted for Dole in ‘96 and Bush in ‘00 and ‘04. I’m not 100% sure who I’ll be voting for this year but I know I’ll be voting.

Definitely should be an individual choice, not one taken away from the law abiding by some gov’t entity.
And, the benefits to those who choose not to defend themselves (freeloaders) are huge, because no criminal likes to face the odds of an armed (not)victim.
It’s always best to have options. You don’t want to be *forced* to fight because you were being oblivious. Likewise, you don’t want to be forced to accede to a felon’s demands because you were being oblivious.
So don’t be oblivious to your environment.
One thing that you can do to make yourself smarter is to carry two wallets. One of those two wallets should be a “dummy” wallet with only a few crisp, green $1 bills in it, and no ID.
Having the dummy wallet gives you the option to walk away from a mugging without a knife slash on your arm (and subsequent expensive trip to a hospital), and without having to deal with some agressive ahole of a prosecutor who wants to “charge” you for shooting some nutjob.
It also gives you the opportunity to gain the drop on a crook if you *do* decide to later shoot the bad guy.
So carry a dummy wallet in order to cleverly give yourself some additional options that other gunowners don’t have.
Likewise, traveling with a large dog gives you options (and a deterrence factor) that others don’t have.
Live your life agressively, but live! And be smart about it.
Like the double rum flasks that some soldiers colonial US would carry. One hidden in the pack and OK, one easily accessable and poisoned.
If they were captured, the enemy would drink the rum (or was that whiskey??) and croak. OK, it may be just a story, but it was a good one.

You are fortunate in America to have the right to bear arms. For many of us foreigners, only the Bad Guys are armed. Never relinquish your Second Amendment rights!

Intellectual honesty demands questioning the wisdom of granting suffrage (with an instant numerical majority) to a segment of society that has a proverbial preference for security over liberty under a Constitution that was designed to elevate liberty over security without otherwise altering the Constitution granting that suffrage.
Sure does make me wonder.
What are we to think of people who are willing to sacrifice justice to prevent vigilantism?
