“I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps and the story in our family is that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn’t leave the house for six months, right. Now obviously something had really affected him deeply but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,” he said.

How can he misspeak about his wife’s “brother”?

No doubt about the exact words at all.

Treblinka was abandoned in 1943, so even the claim of entering Treblinka is highly suspect.

His “grandfather”—does he mean the white, cracker grandfather, the one who married Barry’s white, racist grandmother?
“Uncle” ? But his white cracker mom was an only child. Did a Kenyan Uncle cross the Atlantic and join the US Army during WW2?

Here is a map of the German Concentration Camps. Remember Germany was split between Soviet and Allied forces.

I stand corrected everyone, thanks, he indeed does say that his uncle was part of the first liberators of Auschwitz.

Yes, that is the original quote.

It is not the ENTIRE original quote.

Weegee, I was suspicious of that 2002 speech.

I looked at you tube and could only find a short clip about a “dumb war”

the second I found says in a preface,

“The film of that speech has been lost, except for the 13 seconds that follow.”

Suspicious. Especially in the digital age. I wonder if there’s been some revisionism...

As far as I can tell, no “fellow troops” would have entered Treblinka either.

One WW 2 vet I know said he helped liberate Belgium. I asked what part and he the wine and chickens part. How do you do that I asked. He said you just point your rifle at the person holding them prisoner.
Needless to say he didn’t take himself too seriously.

No mention of Auschwitz in this video. Obama didn't talk about his uncle at all. So where did the reporter come up with that entire passage?

The actual quote per Fox

“I had a uncle who was one of the, who was part of the first American troops to go into Auschwitz and liberate the concentration camps and the story in our family is that when he came home, he just went up into the attic and he didn’t leave the house for six months, right. Now obviously something had really affected him deeply but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,”

Can't listen to the video now, but this link claims to have it. If he didn't say it, obviously Fox has it very, very wrong.

I guess when Holocaust story fabricating President Obama finally meets face to face with Holocaust denier Iranian president Ahmadinejad, they’ll have a lot to talk about.

You make an excellent point. He said “I cannot know”, suggesting it was something that was out of his control.

The proper statement would have been “I do not know”, which would indicate it was a decision on his part that led to his inability to comprehend.

You say “I cannot know” when you are talking to a cancer survivor and you have not had cancer.

What bothers me the most is how idiotic he is. He believes his own lies yet is supposed to be highly educated. I think it is beyond time that he releases all of his education transcripts and health records. There is something very wrong with Obama and that includes his purported education and health.
