The Borders would be a very thorny issue to handle for me if were I the executive ( i’tll never happen :-) )

I hear you, and we need to handle the illegal immigration issue somehow, but closing off the borders and making us look like East Europe in the cold war is not a good answer.

Looking back in time, maybe the intent of NAFTA was good (to make Mexico economically viable) but Mexico was still to corrupt for it to work.
