Matchboxes with $5m Osama bounty message circulating in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Matchboxes carrying Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden’s photograph are in circulation in Peshawar city, advertising huge rewards from the US government in return for information about Osama.

“Contact the nearest US embassy or consulate, if you have any information about Osama Bin Laden,” says the text written in Urdu on one side of the matchbox containing 30 sticks.

Postal and email addresses for sharing of information with the US government have also been given on the other side of the matchbox, which also mentions the web-site www.heroes.net for further information.

The inside text states Bin Laden is wanted by the US government on charges of killing 220 innocent citizens in Kenya and Tanzania on August 7, 1998.

It further says that the US government will pay up to $5 million for any information leading to the arrest of Bin Laden in any country or help prove the charges levelled against him.

The statement says the informer’s name will be kept secret, and ‘possible’ relocation to another place.

Previously, leaflets were distributed in the Tribal Areas and t-shirts carrying Bin Laden’s photos were also introduced in Peshawar to encourage people to provide information about the Al Qaeda chief.

Well, if he's dead, why the matchbooks? We don't need to encourage the Pakis to smoke.

Bin Laden lived with his entourage for many years in Peshawar, hmmm.

If he was in the FATA or NWFP the writings would be in Pashto not in Urdu which is the main language of Pakistan.

Our bounty on OBL is only $5 million?

This war is costing us how many TENS OF BILLIONS?

You would think we would offer someone a billion dollars and to be king of their own nation.

This is wrong, they could fall into the hands of children, who would then be tempted to use the matches to light cigarettes or hookahs.

Is the cost of increasing smoking what we want in order to get Usama?

As I recall, originally the bounty on his head was $25 Million, but no takers. As time moves on, and more agencies deem him as having little influence, the price on his head dropped. But I won’t believe he’s dead until I see his head on a pike staked outside the WTC site. And if a US soldier nails that ****er, I’m buying him a case of Makers Mark Bourbon.

Weird, unless it’s designed to scoop up info on people who access it.

Also weird, no mention of 911 on the matches, but the African embassies.

Is that because 911 is popular in Pakistan.

The matchbox should also contain the following reminder: “C’mon! The guy’s a freaking Saudi and what’s so great about this hellhole anyway?”

Most killed in the African bombings were Muslims, there is limited sympathy for 9/11 in most of the Muslim world. Many Muslims believe as Rev. Wright does that “the chickens were coming home to roost”.
