McClellan Book Reminds Matthews of 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'

"I'm not fit to be a Senator. I'm not fit to live. Expel me! Expel me! Not him. Every word that boy said is the truth! Every word about Taylor and me and graft and the rotten political corruption of our state. Every word of it is true. I'm not fit for office! I'm not fit for any place of honor or trust. Expel me!"—Claude Rains as the corrupt Sen. Joseph Paine in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"

Chris Matthews has broken out a Jimmy Stewart/Mr. Smith Goes to Washington analogy to praise Scott McClellan's book and assess its impact. Here's how the Hardball host put it on this afternoon's show:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: When you read the book, it reads like Claude Rains in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. You know: "everything the guy says is true." I mean, he [McClellan] is admitting that the other guy, the good guy's, right—I mean, if that's your perspective.

More like “Mr. Smith Goes to the Bathroom and Uses Scott McClellan’s Book for Toilet Paper.”

Right. They’re both liberal wish fulfillment fictions.

By funny coincidence, seriously, Matthews also mentioned that Larry Craig is coming out . . . with a book, that is ;-)

Does Matthews claim to be unbiased? I mean, I know his history, and I know where he stands. But -- does he claim to be neutral?

No matter how you slice it, Matthews is a typical MSM liberal ass-clown. I have absolutely no respect for his blind liberalism and support of the radical, criminal left.

What’s it called “I’m Not Gay, Nor Have I Ever Been Gay,” an autobiography by Larry Craig, who is for sure not gay?

The Administration must come out immediately and refute every single one of Scottie’s lies.

Are you talking about un-gay Larry Craig, the Senator from Idaho who is definitely not gay nor has ever been gay? ;-)

I can’t think of anyone McClellan LESS resembles than Mr. Smith.

Wrong story, Chrissy Matthews — what we have here with Scott McClellan is more like “The Shining” where a guy goes crazy and is willing to kill anyone in sight.......

All Frank Capra’s (the director of ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’) movies presented the leftist/socialist point of view. In his movies, businessmen were bad and it was only the lowly common man who was moral and good. In addition to Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, some of Capra’s more notable movies include:

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town
Lost Horizon
You Can’t Take it With You
Meet John Doe

Probably his most familiar movie is ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ where common-man Jimmy Stewart overcomes the bad big businessman banker Lionel Barrymore.

During WWII he made movies against the Nazis and Japanese in support of the war effort. I do not know of any films he made criticizing Soviet Russia or socialism generally.

Do you think that anybody will will ever offer Scott McClellan a job after this brouhaha blows over?

Will Scott be able to have President Bush as a Reference?

Does anybody remember what happen to that Lady whatever her name is that was used by the Democrats to protest the war?
I believe her son was killed in the war

The VERY INSTANT I saw McClellan the first time in his role as “spokesperson” for the Bush Administration — I wondered where they had found the obvious lightweight who was WAY over his head.

It took far too long to replace him..
In private industry, he would have been removed after the first senior management review of his performance..
Usually within 30/60 days of assignment into a new position.
It took the Bush “Administration” almost 3 years to remove the clown.

Another Bush staff member who didn’t serve him well...

Hah! Except Mr. Bean had the advantage of being hilarious...whereas Mr. McClellan is only pitiful.
