CA: Pete the Party Wrecker Strikes Again (Pete Wilson, exposed)
Sacramento Union ^ | May 28, 2008 | William E. Saracino

Posted on 05/30/2008 3:58:11 PM PDT by calcowgirl

Not content with his legacy of seriously damaging the Republican Party in California during his term in office, former Gov. Pete Wilson has weighed in on the Sacramento-area Tom McClintock vs. Doug Ose congressional primary ...

I lived in Sacramento and was deeply involved in GOP politics during the “Wilson years,” and as such think there are a couple of items Republican voters in the 4th Congressional district ought to take into account as they weigh the liberal Wilson’s endorsement of the liberal Ose.

* If Pete Wilson had gotten his way, Ronald Reagan would have never been in the White House. When Reagan ran for president, Wilson traveled to New Hampshire during the primary election to campaign against his home state governor. Spending days in the state bashing Reagan, Wilson informed GOP voters that Reagan had been “a mediocre governor,” was “too extreme” to get elected president and would “lead the GOP to disaster.” ...

* Pete Wilson’s answer to tight budgetary times in Sacramento was to raise taxes on working families. ... He not only sided squarely with the liberal Democrat tax-raisers but also embarked on a jihad against conservative legislators brave enough to stand up to him and oppose increased taxes. He famously said, “Conservatives are f------ irrelevant.” ...

*Pete Wilson managed to ram his tax increases through the Democrat dominated legislature, but that wasn’t enough for him. Like a spoiled child, he set out to punish Republican legislators who opposed raising taxes by recruiting primary opponents to them and other “no new taxes” GOP candidates in the 1992 primaries. ...

*Pete Wilson’s tax-raising and wishy-washy liberalism nearly destroyed the Republican Party during his governorship. While he was the leader of the party, GOP representation in the assembly plunged from 41 members to 32. ...

Indeed.

I've done whatever I could here to help 98. I made my own bumepr sticker and lawn sign and even a YouTube video (it was the first pro-98 ad at the time when I posted it). I've even been able to convince those who live in a mobile home park that 98 is the one to pass and not 99.

I’ve seen one pro 98 commercial run several times down here in San Diego. Every little bit helps!

LOL. Youtube has a sense of humor (it ultimately worked, but this was the message I got—twice)

Wait, I thought 99 was the good one, not 98?

99 is supported by the Big Government politicians including the Democratic Party, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Pete Wilson, and the usual laundry list of unions and other left-wing support organizations.

98 is supported by the California Republican Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.

Thanks. I looked at one of those flyers and got turned around by the “San Diego Rep. party” printed in the corner! I should know better!

Yeah, ya gotta watch this time of year when these paid slate cards come out to mislead people into thinking a political party is supporting or opposing something when the reality may be different.

Usually I look to see if the slate goes along with candidates that I already know I’m voting for, but this one tripped me up, as they went for Duncan D. as well.

Same here with the flyers. It’s getting to the point of voting the opposite of what the CA Republican party suggests.

I’ve got a bunch of misleading flyers. I now ignore them all.

I just read an article of who is opposing Prop 98:

• Gov. Schwarzenegger
• U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein
• former Gov. Pete Wilson
• U.S. Rep. George Radanovich

Nice to have these folks working against ya, huh?
I’m really beginning to loathe these RINOs.

No problem. :-)
I do that all the time with “their” and “there” and even “they’re” once in a while.
A wire gets loose somewhere between my brain and the keyboard, LOL.

During Wilson's tenure as gov, we teachers went through this really horrible bickering between Wilson and the guy who was the State super of schools. It got really ugly, and the whole school system was held hostage to a couple of whiny idiots. During that time, the CLAS test, this open-ended, touchy-feely exam, was sprung on us. Some of the literature selections were offensive to some, so parents raised a stink and demanded the right to opt their kids out of the test. OK by me, because the test was a loser anyway. When it died a timely death, schools had to scramble to find some kind of measuring device by which to measure students' progress. We found one, and it was quite good, and we used it until the various "reforms" brought by Sacto, & DC gave us their measuring tests, which, of course, are stupid and do nothing.

Wilson is, and was, a petty jerk. His try at the Prez. was pathetic at best, and I remember feelign the same way you did. And now we have Ahnold. Don't get me started....

I think I already got you started! :-)

And then Wilson lost his voice and couldn't campaign. Talk about karma...
