Lanier plans to seal off rough ’hoods in latest effort to stop wave of violence (D.C.)
Boston Examiner ^ | Jun 4, 2008 | Michael Neibauer and Bill Myers

D.C. police will seal off entire neighborhoods, set up checkpoints and kick out strangers under a new program that D.C. officials hope will help them rescue the city from its out-of-control violence.

Under an executive order expected to be announced today, police Chief Cathy L. Lanier will have the authority to designate “Neighborhood Safety Zones.” At least six officers will man cordons around those zones and demand identification from people coming in and out of them. Anyone who doesn’t live there, work there or have “legitimate reason” to be there will be sent away or face arrest, documents obtained by The Examiner show.

This 'program' will last right up to the point the very first attorney walks up to one of these checkpoints.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just wall off the entire District?

That ain't going to last (though with the dems in congress, I would expect similar restrictions at the federal level. It would, of course, be 'for the children'.

What do you bet that they will NOT ask if someone is in the country legally?

this’ll never fly. if those zones are comprised mostly of inner city yutes that wear their pants around their thighs and show off their underwear, you betcha they’ll be hit with a discrimination suit..

Why does this remind me of all the militias keeping Irag from a cohesive government?

Could it be that the good ol’ USA is no longer a melting pot? No we are not.

Sad but the rest of the world wants to be like us and we are instead turning into them.

Perhaps they can make known gang members wear a snappy identifying symbol on their clothing.

Say....yellow stars might work.
