Lanier plans to seal off rough ’hoods in latest effort to stop wave of violence (D.C.)
Boston Examiner ^ | Jun 4, 2008 | Michael Neibauer and Bill Myers

Posted on 06/05/2008 9:26:36 AM PDT by decimon

D.C. police will seal off entire neighborhoods, set up checkpoints and kick out strangers under a new program that D.C. officials hope will help them rescue the city from its out-of-control violence.

Under an executive order expected to be announced today, police Chief Cathy L. Lanier will have the authority to designate “Neighborhood Safety Zones.” At least six officers will man cordons around those zones and demand identification from people coming in and out of them. Anyone who doesn’t live there, work there or have “legitimate reason” to be there will be sent away or face arrest, documents obtained by The Examiner show.

This 'program' will last right up to the point the very first attorney walks up to one of these checkpoints.

That ain't going to last (though with the dems in congress, I would expect similar restrictions at the federal level. It would, of course, be 'for the children'.

The mayor of NO send in the cops and bulldozers to knock it down. ‘Course as blacks can’t be racist, maybe it will fly.

This plan will never work. NOTHING works in the District of Columbia.

DC does only two things well: Ticket cars and tow them.

The Police Department is a joke.

The last good chief was the guy who lead the department before Home Rule in 1975. I think his name was Jerry Wilson. The rest have been jerks, layabouts and shirkers.

Lanier has the job ONLY because she is a woman.

It's not. In fact, when you don't follow the Constitution, this is exactly what you get. A disarmed populace, imprisoned 'for their own good', under the benevolent watch of their betters.

And at the very crown of the American republic, within walking distance of the actual Constitution. You couldn't make this stuff up.

Shelley Broderick, president of the D.C.-area American Civil Liberties Union and the dean of the University of the District of Columbia’s law school, said the plan was “cockamamie.”

“I think they tried this in Russia and it failed,” she said. “It’s just our experience in this city that we always end up targeting poor people and people of color, and we treat the kids coming home from choir practice the same as we treat those kids who are selling drugs.”

"But treating octogenarians in wheelchairs the same way we treat Muslim terrorists in airports is OK in my book," Shelley added.

Excellent point.

Since millions have entered illegally and are willing to work for very low wages, and given the fact that employers love their low wage illegal workers...We'll they are basically hands off and exempt from law.

What they need to do is set-up tables with laptop computers linked to the National Crime Information Center. Have people line-up and if they don’t have any felonies or serious misdemeanor convictions, hand them a pistol. I’m sure that DC could round up several thousand handguns for the less money than they would throw away on some other ridiculous social engineering project.

I GUARANTEE you that crime will go down, and go down QUICKLY, if this were to be implemented.

This is exactly what we're doing over here with Sadr City. Walling it off, manning checkpoints, forcing residents to produce papers to pass, locking the place down.

An unsettling parallel when I think about going home. Like the end of the recent Planet of the Apes remake.

That has a familiar ring to it. Hasn’t that been tried before?

BTW, did you see the qote from Livy’s history or Rome that posted elsewhere earier?

Titus Livy, ancient Roman historian, wrote in his introduction to his History of Rome that his purpose in writing was, “to trace the progress of our moral decline, to watch, first, the sinking of foundations of morality as the old teaching was allowed to lapse, then the rapidly increasing disintegration, then the final collapse of the whole edifice, and the dark dawning of our modern day when we can neither endure our vices nor face the remedies needed to cure them.”

WTF??!!

Of course this won’t withstand judicial scrutiny.

But here is the more important question: why are the people who come up with these ideas in key government positions? Do they not have even the slightest iota of understanding of what it means to be in America?

“Legitimate reason” for being in a place? Because I damn well want to be here or there. Who the hell do they think they are even considering asking the question?

Absolute abuse of power by brain-damaged control freaks.

I had occasion not long ago to have a little chat with Ms Police Chief. I was with a group of Freepers and SASTERS in front of the Armed Services Recruiting Center when the moonbats were in town and had threatened to enter the recruiting center.

The police chieftress came by to tell all of the cops stationed in front of the building not to react when they were throwing paint bombs at us and painting obscenities on the sides of the police cars parked along the street. I pointed out to her that the citizens of DC would be paying to have those cars repainted, and what I thought of that!

The good news is that she didn't arrest me--LOL!

I can. All anybody has to do is mention "it's for the children" or "we're just trying to protect you from terrorists" and they are given carte blanche to do things that would have been right at home in East Germany before the Soviet Union collapsed.

I visited Eastern Europe before the Soviet Union collapsed, and I saw people that were afraid of their government. It's headed that way here.
