Senator Hillary Clinton today disavowed a campaign by some of her supporters to pressure Senator Barack Obama into choosing her as a running-mate, saying they were acting on their own and decision on who to pick was Senator Obamas and his alone.
The statement from Mrs. Clinton campaign came after two days in which a number of her key supporters had pressed the idea of picking her as a running-mate, saying that such a match-up was key to salving wounds in the Democratic Party and to assuring a Democratic victory in the fall. And Clinton had made no obvious effort to discourage it, telling New York lawmakers, in a private conference call earlier this week, that she was open to serving as Obamas running-mate.
The apparent campaign to push Mrs. Clinton onto the ticket was, in its directness, unusual and several Democrats said arguably counterproductive. Aides to Obama said they were unhappy with the effort and some Democrats outside the campaign said that Mr. Obama could be portrayed to bowing to pressure should he choose Clinton to run with him.
The statement from the Clinton camp on Thursday was, in many ways, a more typical statement put out by a vanquished candidate seeking consideration for the No. 2 spot. Mrs. Clinton did not rule out accepting the position if offered, even as she made clear she was not authorizing the activities on her behalf.
While Senator Clinton has made clear throughout this process that she will do whatever she can to elect a Democrat to the White House, she is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her, Howard Wolfson, one of the campaigns chief strategists, said in a statement provided to The New York Times. The choice here is Senator Obamas and his alone.

I think this means he said - “No thanks”
“It’s his choice. He can either make the free choice to take me, or he can slit his own throat and die an agonizing death.”
IT will be so good when these political whores (sorry to insult the honorable whores out there..) are gone from the scene.
“... decision on who to pick was Senator Obamas and his alone....”
well golly gee, who’da thunk it!!!
If Obama really wanted to stir things up, he would hold up that Drudge headline “It’s His Choice” with Hiliarly’s picture on it, grin like Truman, and say “That’s mighty white of you!”
Tell me none of you people didn’t think of that old phrase.
LOL
It’s hard to determine whether the Times is just ignorant of how the Clintons use proxies, or if they’re just knowingly pretending the acts of her supporters aren’t coming at her direction.
Can the Democrat party please arrange for Dorothy and Toto to douse HRC with a bucket of water to see if she starts to melt, before nominating her as VP?
ROFL.
If someone ever says “you’re white through and through,” remember that can be said of chickensh*t.
I was thinking, "mighty white of her".
I honestly don't think she has ever had any interest in it. I think she's convinced that there is no way Obama can win regardless of who is on the ticket, and I don't see her wanting to get tied up with the losing cause. I really think she's already looking towards 2012.
If Obama is smart, he’ll have her on his short list: To be Ambassador to Madagascar.
If Hillary is smart, she’ll say, no thanks to any offers and wait until 2012.
That’s very white of her.
She sent ole lanny davis out to beg for her and then threw him under the bus.
No one should be surprised at her disloyalty.
