The Charter Of Rights guarantees freedom of speech, thought and conscience. On the other hand, the Canadian Left and its Human Rights Commission operate in a world where the newly coined "right" not be offended trumps Charter rights. Canada has awoken to a situation in which not only the age old Charter rights have been practically eliminated at a bureaucrat's stroke of the pen, in practice the new right means the Left not only gets to gag its enemies but to coerce them into adopting their point of view and at the same time to pay for the expression of that view. George Orwell's Big Brother never had to go that far to force the people to love him. In short, today in Canada, you are not allowed to say anything anywhere and at anytime of which the Left might disapprove. For the rest of your life. What a terrifying punishment that's Kafkaesque in the extreme.

They can do that because they're not bound by due process. I'd rather would rather spend the rest of my life in prison than take their punishment. What it would take from me would be my soul. In prison, they can have my body but least my mind is free. That's not something any free person should every voluntarily obey.

He was convicted. They begin and end with the premise he and Maclean's are guilty. The farce of the proceedings in BC is to determine the punishment. The HRC's are not courts of law in which the presumption of innocence and due process apply to the accused. Rather, its exactly the reverse. You have to prove you didn't do anything wrong and every one knows its impossible to prove a negative. That's why the HRC's are ironically enough, a state-organized assault upon human rights. What they do in their proceedings and rulings makes a mockery of the duty to protect them.

Incredible. This “trial” is right out of the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany. The only difference is they do not (yet) execute people who “offend.” I am sure the Human Rights Tribunal is busy figuring out how they can get away with executing people for speaking incorrect thoughts. Maybe the HRT will team up with Islamists and impose Sharia on non-Muslims who “offend.” They sure seem to be working toward this.

Hopefully, the rest of the Anglosphere will see the madness of these Court of Star Chamber "human rights" councils, and abolish them.

Otherwise, we can actually say "blame Canada". /sarc

To any fellow Canadian Freepers: is there no appelate court to whom such a judgment can be appealed? Is there no Supreme Court in Canada to weigh in on the “unconstitutionality” of this farce? Or do you have nothing that protects free speech? Sorry to be so ignorant of Canada’s legal system, but this seems bizarre.

Islam is Marxism with religious zealotry to carry out Stalinist suppression of human spirit and Freedom. That is why they have such a fondness for each other. Lets not forget the long ties of Soviet Union to such grand organizations as the PLO. Communism has had their expansionary hands all over the Middle east for many years.

oops.
To tie this into the article, There isn't much difference in this court and the courts in any tyrannical communist country, only the punishment may be different but that will change as more power is levied away from the people to the state.

So this idiot woman is a lawyer. Must mean she has some education.

That’s a liberal: someone educated beyond their abilities and intelligence. In this case waaaaaaaay beyond them.
