He was so wonderful in “Hud”... I loved that movie.

All the best to Mr. Newman in fighting this scourge.

The Newmans celebrated 50 years of marriage in Jan. 2008...They raised their daughters in Connecticut.

Joanne, who turned 78, once described being married to Paul as: "Being married to the most considerate, romantic man". Her 83-year-old spouse adds: "We are very, very different people and yet somehow we fed off those varied differences, and instead of separating us, it has made the whole bond a lot stronger."

"Joanne has always given me unconditional support in all my choices and endeavours, and that includes my race car driving, which she deplores. To me, that's love."

Hmmmm, large cell, small cell or a combination? Small cell is devastatingly swift no matter where you're being treated

Whatever happened to his Hollywood career?

His last good movie was "Nobody's Fool" (1994). He said then he would only make one more, but made inconsequential appearances in 3 more. He planned it, did it the way he wanted to. I enjoyed "Nobody's Fool."

He’s one lefty I never really minded, a smoker, a drinker and always put his own money up for his causes.

Indeed... And by this thread I discovered that all the proceeds from his foodstuffs line went to his various charities, which I hadn't known before now. I had never purchased any of those products before, but may well in the near future...

I had no idea he was 83, are we sure that isn’t a mistake? I always liked him, I wish him the best.

While we would like to think so, the fact that he was at least 30, when I was 10 sadly dictates this to be true (I am 53, now, or close enough to it to say so)...

one of the best movies..... Cool Hand Luke.....

Photobucket

and Slapshot still cracks me up. I miss Strother Martin, what a great character actor he was.

I suspect nowadays you’d never get away with that line that Reg Dunlop said to the Chief’s owner about her son.

yeah, that was hilarious.

His last good movie was "Nobody's Fool" (1994)

If there's a movie to be known for, that would be his best. I still get choked up thinking about the scene with him talking to his buddy out on the back porch.

I concur with the “Nobody’s Fool.”

I am conflicted. A great actor who has created many enjoyable movies and gave a lot to charity. On the other hand, he is part of the left that is destroying the country, although I doubt that he thinks that.

So, I give him kudos for some things and demerits for other things.

But having survived two nasty cancers, I never wish that upon anyone.

If we based our entertainment choices on the political views of those entertaining us, that part of our life would be very dull. I choose to give him credit for what I like about him.

I must see it again, it was really good.

My memory is not as clear as yours, but I do remember a scene where he is standing in the road... leaves have fallen, he seems a bit lost....?

I also remember the scene where Melanie Griffith strips off her top for him:)
