NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- This month's trial of former state Sen. John Ford on corruption charges could last up to a month.
Ford is accused of taking $800,000 in consultant payments from TennCare contractors to promote those private companies' interests with the state's expanded Medicaid program.
Ford was known for his flashy attire when he was a lawmaker. On Monday he was led into court in a dark green jumpsuit with his hands cuffed behind his back.
He was convicted earlier this year of taking $55,000 in bribes during the unrelated federal Tennessee Waltz investigation and is serving a 5 1/2 year sentence.
Prosecutors said they will need about two weeks to present evidence in the case that is scheduled to begin on June 24.
Ford's attorney said he will need the same amount of time if he decides to put on a defense.
How could they have missed that?
Gee, no political affiliation mentioned... Who saw this coming?
BTW, he is a dem.
This just in. John Ford has been found guilty on ALL charges involving his part in a TennCare defrauding scheme. From what I read a month ago, two charges carries a twenty year sentence each. The other four charges carries a five year sentence each. That means a maximum of SIXTY YEARS in prison. Add to that what he’s already doing and that means that good ole John will probably die in prison. Doesn’t that just break your heart?
