In a further sign that Republican hopes are fading badly, the head of the Senate GOP's campaign committee has set a new goal for the party this Fall: Not to lose too many Senate seats.
NRSC chair John Ensign has moved the goal posts, according to the Savannah Morning News, saying that the GOP will have succeeded if they don't lose more than eight seats.
Ensign pointed out that if the Dems win nine seats they'll get to the filibuster-proof magic number of 60 -- at which point, Ensign warned, "they will be able to do pretty much whatever they want."
So if the Dems can't get to a 60-seat super-majority, the GOP will have won. Talk about lowering the bar.
That’s the spirit!
“Defeat Lite!”
LOL!!!!!!! Thats Funny
If they'd stuck to their principles and behaved as conservatives, they wouldn't be in this 5h!+ right now.
There is not a single thing wrong with being objective, we have more Senators running then the Dhimmmis in a down year for Republicans, there will be losses, that is a given.
9 seats is an awful lot though, I believe we can do a bit better then that.
RNC still AWOL.
I want to hear the actual quote myself. This sounds far to retarded a statement toc ome out of the mouth of a guy like Ensign (who is an actual conservative, not somebody playing one during election years).
Great Caesar’s Ghost! I can’t stand these people!
If the stupid party isn't even able to garner enough courage to fight for their own seats, why should I support them ?
Of course if they were to present a unified front and lobby for drilling and building new refineries as well as denying benefits for illegal aliens, Pubs would win in a landslide....
If we lose one seat we LOSE,
If we only lose eight, we may survive.
I’m so happy I never had a football coach like our current crop of Republican leaders - they seem to enjoy losing.
What an idiot, politicians can play the low expectations game in primaries and opinion polls, in Senatorial elections the terms are for SIX years and EIGHT seats is a humongous deficit to make up in a midterm election.
I can’t believe that anybody would be simple minded enough to make a statement like that!!! Not even a Republican.
There’s a cmapiagn we can get behind!
“THE GOP - THE PARTY THAT HOPES TO NOT LOSE TOO BADLY!”
The problem is that the McCain presidential strategyrun as a centrist in order to embrace independent voterswill hurt us in the Congressional races.
The only real strategy is to run as a true conservative, highlight flaws in liberal thinking, explain concerns in practical termsfor example, The federal government can not solve your problems. But, we can forget that. The only conservative point McCain has is the war on terror.
And they wonder why we call them, “The Stupid Party.”
Of course they could all behave like democrats and then declare it a total victory.
