El Paso to ask feds for help treating wounded Mexican cops
Houston Chronicle/AP ^ | June 10, 2008

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso County officials want the federal government to take over transporting and caring for wounded Mexican police officers now being treated in a local hospital.

The officers were wounded in an ongoing turf war among powerful and deadly Mexican drug cartels. They are being treated at El Paso County hospital, and local sheriff's deputies are providing tight security to prevent Mexico's violence from spilling into the United States.

The officers were shot in Casas Grandes, Mexico, about 140 miles south of El Paso. Their transfer to El Paso prompted the second security lockdown at the public hospital this year.

Don't suppose the El Paso County officials thought about sending the bills to Mexico?

There isn't a Mexican hospital that could have taken them? Why are they the problem of El Paso County?

Bringing these into the US is a bad idea--they might be pursued by the Mexicans who wounded them in the first place.

This puts hospital personnel in the US at risk.

George Bush, how much farther do we have to go? Why didn't you tell us that you really wanted to be president of Mexico and Mexican nationals--rather than the US and its citizens?

This is just more fall out from the failed War on Drugs. Even if these Mexican Cops die, it will be a small price to pay, to keep the WOD payroll flowing like a non stop gusher. After all the WOD is about the payroll.

Ha! Let’s see, no money for counties and hospitals for aliens, no money for the FENCE, no money for the VICTIMS, but there’s billions they found in Congress today to send to MEXICO.

Good news: House Passes $1.6 Billion Border Security, Crime-Fighting Package…MONEY WILL BE SENT TO MEXICO!

I suppose we should set up cop shops on our side for Mexican cops too so they will be safer. Maybe give them houses here too and provide around the clock security guards? /s

I'm sure the reason they are in the El Paso hospital in the first place is because it is safer - not to mention the care is likely better and "free". If they were in almost any Mexican hospital, they would be gunned down before the doctors even thought about taking the bandages off.

The drug gangs wouldn't dare run assassination teams into US hospitals and blaze away, would they? Oh, wait a minute. Isn't that maybe why the terrified local officials are calling in the feds?

It's great to have peaceful neighbors, isn't it? Besides, high fences make good neighbors. Oh, wait...

You beat me to it. I want to know why Mexico is not taking care of their own.

“House Passes $1.6 Billion Border Security, Crime-Fighting Package…MONEY WILL BE SENT TO MEXICO!”

Otherwise, the severed head of Speaker Pelosi would be rolled down the House floor.
