Enduring TeleSUR - Venezuela's Leftist Propaganda Channel
TeleSUR TV - Venezuela ^

Posted on 06/11/2008 1:04:46 PM PDT by SilvieWaldorfMD

As I was 'channel surfing' at my grandmother's house in San Juan this past weekend, I came upon TeleSUR, the new Hugo Chavez T.V. venture, live from Caracas. The programming I saw -- after enduring a cooking show featuring how to make 'arepas', the equivalent in Venezuela of 'pancakes' -- started with anti-U.S., anti-'Imperialists', anti-Bush, et.al. from their news proogramming dept. and then, in the entertainment dept., a segment featuring a musician named Rene Calle 13, who basically told the audience: "F*ck George Bush, he's the worse president ever".

Here in the U.S. we have Al Jazeera and other international channels in various cable systems that belittle and/or are very critical of the U.S. government, and that's no problem -- it's freedom of speech. However, why do we have to pay so much money to have limited choices in our cable TV systems -- and on top of that have to pay to listen to this leftist propaganda crap? From what I understand, TeleSUR is also available in South Florida, all the better for Raul and Fidel Castro to spew their garbage, via Chavez, to the citizens of that state.

Why do we have to endure this if these nations (Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, China, for example) don't allow American cable TV channels in their countries?

Would you cancel your cable TV subscription if a U.S. enemy 'Leftist Propaganda' channel was part of the lineup?

“Why do we have to endure this if these nations (Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, China, for example) don’t allow American cable TV channels in their countries?”

Because free citizens can hear all sides and determine what is truth and what is propaganda.

Better for everybody to have access to everything than for one government, ANY government, to control all the media.

The rightful function of the educational system is to teach people how to discern truth in a sea of propaganda, not to have the government prevent the propaganda. I’d rather have my kids able to listen to everyone from Rush to Fidel, and read Mao along with Von Mises, and make up their own minds, than have ANY censorship of ideas.

Just my .02

A loaded sentence on so many levels. That is *supposed* to be the function of the educational system, however, the teachings in the public school arena are geared towards one side [i.e. the liberal agenda] than to teach kids a balanced and fair view of history and the realities of our world. I'm amazed with the stuff that my 7-year-old comes home with. The other day, their social studies teacher was telling them about Mexico, and he came home saying that "we have to be nicer to the Mexicans. They work at the car wash and are 'lelegal'" (his word for "illegal").

I was like, "WTF?"

Other than Fox News, what other American cable station presents all sides of the issues? MSNBC? CNN?

Anyone who gets their news from just TV or radio is hopeless anyway. I want to hear the right, the left, the cranks on both sides, the people who think left and right are nuts, then I’ll make up my own mind.
