I wish Freepers would realize that Google is primarily built around a very complex mathematical algorithm that is very, very respected. If the integrity of it was questionable, you must realize that they wouldn't be the company they now are.

If it's so sophisticated then it wouldn't need people to tend and tweak it, now would it.

Click on the link I posted (searching news for tax proposals) and the same article leads. http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=tax%20proposals&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wn

I'll 'respect' an algorithm that does not take 23 hour old articles from biased bush-league blogs (I hope they read this and enjoy being referred to as such ;) and rank them at the top of a search.

The best part about this is it inspires people who genuinely are interested in the best that technology can offer to go out and build an engine that will do to Google what Google did to others: drive it into obsolescence.

Well, the fact that it is an algorithm implies that people wrote it, doesn’t it? The sheer complexity requires tending to keep people from from doing tricks like Google-bombing.

I don’t deny that the news media is liberal, so I think if you link to a semi-random assortment of newspapers, you’ll tend to come up with some liberal slants...I wouldn’t blame that on Google.

If you happen to browse Google news tomorrow and see a Foxnews story at the very top (which does happen), are you going to post an article about Google being Republican-slanted? :)

This does show up on Google News, however:

The selection and placement of stories on this page were determined automatically by a computer program.

As soon as that article ticked over 24 hours, it now went to its own listing

Same EXACT search (all I am doing is refreshing the page) - I have about 10 screenshots from the past hour and a half, and as soon as the ThinkProgress Link disappeared from the batch, it reappeared on its own. Tell me that is some algorithm just doing its job. Any editor can bump or delete articles and that is certainly what Google appears to be doing here.

I may be misinformed. I need to go back and research what I read before.

For better results on Google News search, click “Sort by Date”.

Sort by relevance is the default. Sort by date is an option. What I am concerned about is the 'news' results appear to be biased, either from within Google (or perhaps Obama's 'War Room' has figured out how to beat or been given backdoors to Google's searching algorithm). The net result is biased crap showing up as news. You know its biased, I know its biased, but does the general public.

That article is now over a day old and *surprise* its back up on top of the batch!

I had expected better from Google.

I recently started to use goodsearch.com. It uses the Yahoo search engine...which works as well for me as Google.

The unique thing about goodsearch.com, is that it allows you to select a charity, and will pay that charity for the searches you do. They also have an agreement with various online stores (from Amazon to Walmart) so that purchases you make at these stores contribute a percentage of your payment to the charity of your choice...so long as you enter the store via the goodsearch screen.

I don't find a lot of difference in the results between Google and Yahoo. Neither wins any awards for being a friend to conservatives. But when I use goodsearch, they contribute to causes I support.

I think goodsearch has been around for a few years, but I just found out about it last week and thought I would pass it along...

Some of Google's biggest shareholders include Al Gore and other nasty Democrat operatives, whose trolls operate the slanted search engine.

Do you honestly expect that trash-piece of a website to demonstrate the truth on the major issues?

Gore owns much of Google's stock, and he is a senior adviser to the company.

Well, it's still up there (along with all sorts of other Obama-positive articles. Looks like the Google 'News' machine is well-oiled and churning out product like a well-oiled Swiss watch.

That whole "Think Progress" thing got me curious, here's their 'about' page: http://thinkprogress.org/about/ They seem to have a lot of employees for a blog. So I looked at who is behind them: http://www.americanprogressaction.org/aboutus/staff Hey! Some of those names look familiar! But how can Google use them as an 'unbiased news source'?

Do the powers that be, and I mean the founders, of Google really think this is what their search engine, their baby should be all about? Tainting information to accomplish some goal? Sorta sounds like the very organization that they might have railed against in their younger days...

I belive there is a company which can be hired to hit selected websites on Google searches in such a way that preferred websites will show up at the top of a query. In effect it takes advantage of Google’s search algorithm to promote a site.
