You are absolutely correct. And the percent of Americans who want to emulate the government power of other nations are doing their dedicated best to subvert our ability to have Freedom of Speech.

Ask any schoolchild what words are verboten. The list of what we are not ‘allowed to say’ grows daily.

Pretty soon “mother” and “father” will be considered “offensive.”

Now the CBC used to thunder forth on the greatness of Canada. Well, of course. How the country found it's identity at Vimy Ridge. This in 1917 when 4000 Canadians were killed and triumphed over the Germans. No anti-war sentiment there.

Way back in the dim recesses of my memory, they did a piece on the triumph of a brave man against the established order. I am indebted to Wikipedia, to refresh my memory. It was Joseph Howe. He published his newspaper Novascotian. In 1835, a letter was published declaring the Halifax politicians and police of being utterly corrupt and had pocketed over thirty thousand pounds sterling.

It was a put up job. The judge was for this criminal libel- the truth was no defence ( as in Canada today). They were ready to incarcerate or ruin him. I remember the CBC dramatization. Howe pointed to the big wigs in the front row. They had the citizens shoved out of their seats to accomodate the big wigs. Against the judge, the jury acquitted Howe in ten minutes. Quoting Wiki.

"The decision was a landmark event in the slow evolution of press freedom in Canada".

I suppose some of the beggers, think because they can "expose" a politician and his dalliance with a well endowed companion- they can get high at their favourite watering hole/s. This is their freedom.

Poor Canada.

“The opiate of the herded masses.”

One wonders how many Canadians, for that matter how many Americans, know what that song is.
