I’m amazed at my emotional reaction to this news compared to my reaction to the Kennedy illness. Though I felt compassion for Kennedy at the news, it was not deeply felt, more of a compassion most have for a fellow human who has a serious illness. I don’t have respect for the man as I believe he doesn’t have the best interests of our country at heart and has disrespected his vows to his wife and his church.

My reaction to Russert’s passing is much more emotional; I agree with many on here that he was a patriotic American who loved his country and his family. Two liberal Democrats, two completely different reactions.

I feel the same way. I can’t remeber feeling so sad about the death of a personality for quite awhile. I think it’s because he’s seemed so decent and was a devoted son, dad and husband.

Whew- I know exactly what you mean.

The difference -as I’ve said elsewhere- as have others- is Russert was not a leftist lib- he was a regular old-school Democrat. It was clear that Russert was a genuinely good guy.
