TANROW, June 13, 2008 (CWNews.com/LifeSiteNews.com) - A Polish volleyball star who was buried on June 9 is being compared by local Catholics to Blessed Gianna Beretta Molla because of her heroic sacrifice for her unborn child.

Agata Mroz, who was originally known for her athletic prowess, was buried in her hometown of Tarnow. Mroz was pregnant with her first child when doctors discovered she had a fatal case of leukemia. After consulting with her husband, Mroz delayed a bone-marrow transplant until after she gave birth to her daughter Liliana on April 4, 2008.

Polish fans dubbed the national team which Mróz led the "Golden Girls," due to their looks and their successes in international competitions. The national team won the European women's volleyball championship in 2003 and 2005.

Auxiliary Bishop Marian Florczyk of Kielce, Poland has said that Mroz's testimony is an example of "love of life, motherhood, the desire to give life, the heroic love of an unborn child." On June 4, a few hours after Mroz's death, Polish President Lech Kaczynski announced that she will be posthumously awarded the Polonia Restituta, one of Poland's highest awards for extraordinary and distinguished service.

Oh, tears here. I KNOW God blesses her and her little daughter. Praying He loans the emotional strength her husband will need to raise their daughter up in a stable, healthy household.

Prayers for this warrior for life and her family.

A brave woman who is to be admired ...

... And will be ignored by the MSM.

I knew a dear lady who delayed treatment for her non-Hodgkins lymphoma until her baby was mature enough to be delivered. Who knows whether treatment would have made a difference, but in any case, she died a year or so after the baby was born.

No one gave her a medal, but she is a hero to me. Men throw themselves on grenades in a similar fashion. I admire her greatly and can’t wait to see her on the other side.

The Aztecs didn't get much right religiously or philosophically, but women who died in childbirth went to the same heaven as warriors who died in battle.

Yes, I agree. Sadly, it occurs to me that in far too many nations and societies this woman would not be honored, but scorned as some kind of fool. This selfless act of love is a merit with the only One who matters, God Almighty.

This is so true.

This young woman is surely a hero, in the most meaningful sense of the word. May her family take some comfort in this knowledge.

That’s true love. If memory serves me correctly the same thing happened to LA Dodgers 3rd basemen Ken McMullen’s wife in the early 70’s.

May God bless and keep the soul of Agata Mroz. Amidst all the moral depravity that afflicts our world, the life and death of this beautiful young woman is a beacon of light.

In a sane world, this brave woman would be a celebrity and no one would have heard of Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. Rest in peace.

On June 4, a few hours after Mroz's death, Polish President Lech Kaczynski announced that she will be posthumously awarded the Polonia Restituta, one of Poland's highest awards for extraordinary and distinguished service.

Something is wrong in Poland.

These are the CIA & UN estimates for Polish Total Fertility Rates [the number of children a woman has over the course of her lifetime]:

CIA, 2000: 1.38
CIA, 2008: 1.27

UN, 2000-2005: 1.25
UN, 2005-2010: 1.23

These are suicidally low fertility rates - in another generation, Poland effectively won't exist anymore [in fact, as we speak, Poland may already have effectively ceased to exist] - and the rates couldn't be that low without massive use of chemical abortifacients [like the birth control pill] or surgical abortion [dilation & curettage, dilation & extraction, vacuum aspiration, etc].

So, on the one hand, the nation of Poland is disappearing before our very eyes [due to government-sanctioned chemical & surgical abortion], and on the other hand, the Polish President immediately announces that a girl like this will receive one of Poland's highest honors from his government.

There's an intellection [and, quite frankly, moral] disconnect there that I find jarring.

If someone would like to take a stab at explaining it to me, then I'm all ears.

“For greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friends”. A friend of mine here in Nashville has a song called “A Jesus Kind of Love” where he celebrates that with various examples. Few of us are capable of that kind of love and we should honor those who are.

Awesome - Poland has become one of the last hopes of the world - I believe that if there is cultural revolution for defending conservative ideology it will come out of Poland.
