I remember when the hall pass to the bathroom was also the padal you would get whacked with. I also remember that you didn’t want to do something that would warrent the whacking.

Was it a ‘Board of Education?’ A teacher in my elementary school had one hanging from her desk, fully visible to anyone who passed her open classroom door. I don't think she had to use it much.
