Call for renewed assault weapon ban
ABC 7 Chicago ^ | June 16, 2008 | WLS

Posted on 06/16/2008 6:06:13 PM PDT by holymoly

The weapons were banned in 1994 but that ban expired in 2004. Monday, Kirk joined local law enforcement leaders to push for new legislation that would get assault weapons off the streets.

Kirk says, without the ban, even police officers in full body armor are in danger.

"They can feel somewhat protected from a normal pistol, but against weapons like these body armor offers no significant protection for a police officer," said Rep. Mark Kirk, (R) Illinois.

The proposed legislation would make it illegal to manufacture, transfer or possess semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition.

Opponents say the law will not cut down on the number of violent crimes.

Any center-fire rifle will penetrate soft body-armor.

I guess Rep. Kirk thinks they should all be banned, along with the ammunition?

And Republicans wonder why we’re not writing them large checks. What a traitor.

“”They can feel somewhat protected from a normal pistol, but against weapons like these body armor offers no significant protection for a police officer,”

The obvious solution is to remove the flash hiders and bayonet lugs, and make the bad guys carry not one, but TWO mags. Then the police will be safe!

Have they even noticed?

They know center-fire rifle will penetrate soft body-armor. It is an intentional misunderstanding. Whatever they say they want every gun, every bullet and every dollar. They want all power.

So. Who gets to define "assault ammunition"?

We will never allow the federal government to unlawfully (2nd amendment) take our firearms. The result of any attempted seizure or confiscations of firearms from law abiding citizens (2nd amendment) will result in total civil war in this country. All libs (anti gun nuts) need to think through this one very carefully. Try to imagine what it will be like in this country during a civil war. Try reading what the exact conditions were like during the last civil war and revolutionary war. Stop trying to take our rights away or be prepared to deal with the consequences.

The CommieRATs and their MSM propaganda branch, same as since at least 1968.

What a bunch of crap! Criminals never follow the laws. What will it take to make these idiots wake up! Sounds like a mass march on D.C. and our state capitals and take over and show them how to do there jobs. Gas prices, gun grabbers, and commies alike need to be flushed down the toilet. Both State and Federal law makers!

Uhhhh...better change that “1968” date back to sometime in the 1930’s...

They’ve been at it for a while.

(that would be the 1930’s when communism was the rage among the ‘educated’ and Hollywood classes - like I said they’ve been at it for a while).

Google ‘comintern’ objectives and see if anything sounds familiar...

So if you have a semi automatic or autoloading Ruger Mini 14 or a Remington 740 that shoots 30.06 or .308 you’re OK?

How about some fast shooting lever action rifles?

They won’t hurt you as long as they’re not fancy looking like an “assault rifle”.

Who are these idiots?

Yep, just ban the guns and the criminals will stop misbehaving. That’ll do’er.

This proves that the “big tent” of the Republicrat Party has become way TOO big. Kirk is a moron. See my tagline.

You want my semi-auto military caliber rifles, b!tch? Come and get ‘em!

“Kirk says, without the ban, even police officers in full body armor are in danger.”

????????????

Beam me up Scotty!!!!.

Unless I have been living on another planet, “assault” rifles aren’t weapons of choice for urban thugs. Too expensive and too large.

Also, cretins like Captain “Kirk” don’t know the difference between an “assault” rifle and an ordinary target rifle of semi-automatic capacity.

Who gets to define "assault ammunition"?

Oh, that's easy. :oP

The definition of "assault weapon ammunition" is:

'Any cartridge that is chambered in any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun* ever made'

I.E.:

.30-06 (M1 Garand)
.308 Winchester (M1A)
.223 Reminginton (AR15)
7.62x39 (SKS, WASR-10)
.30 Carbine (M1 Carbine)
Etc., etc., etc.

And since treasonous anti-gun zealots also consider semi-automatic rifles chambered for handgun ammunition to be "assault weapons", you'd also see the 9mm & 45 ACP cartridges banned (IIRC Both are/were chambered in the Marlin Camp Carbine).

*H.R. 1022: Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 lists several specific models of shotgun, so if they're going to ban "assault weapon ammunition", they'll also have to ban shotgun shells.

Who gets to define "assault ammunition"?

This means I can't have an AR or any 5.56/.223 ammo, but I can keep my T/C Contender in .223 but can't buy ammo for it.

Semi-automatic assault weapon?

The "Assault Weapons" Scam
by Jennifer Freeman

Prior to 1994, the term "assault weapon" was used to describe a military rifle that allowed the operator to choose semi-automatic or fully automatic firing of ammunition. The disarmament society erroneously labeled a select group of semi-automatic civilian rifles as "assault weapons" in a further attempt to confuse the public into thinking the ban applied to machine guns.

Contact Mark Kirk at http://www.house.gov/kirk/

HOWEVER, make sure you use a zip code from his district.

He’s one of the elitist snobs in Congress who feels he make laws for the entire country but only get messages from people in his district.

I am a registered Republican - for now. I throw out requests for Party contributions and select those Republicans with Conservative values to support.

The whole point of the 2nd amendment was for armed government representatives to not feel safe at all times when interacting with the population.

And not just the police but also the armies.

Seeking Statistics.....

Excluding the mass murders of unarmed innocents, does anyone know the actual number of intentional fatalities caused by assault style weapons in the USA?

Specifically - the number of intentional murders of law enforcement personnel?
