Just to play devil's advocate here:
Sen. Ann Duplessis' Senate Bill 672 would more than double lawmakers' base pay to $37,500

Is this saying that a legislator prior to this raise was only bringing in $18K per year?

Doubling the pay is a a massive raise for one time to vote themselves. Does Louisiana have trouble getting people to run for legislature? Are all the people running wealthy? Is a lot of Louisiana's corruption due to low pay, offset by other 'incentives' that encourage corruption? Does the pay raise eliminate these incentives?

Seems there is a lot to this story worth checking into.

... it will be an ever-increasing tab because the salary will be linked to the Consumer Price Index and will rise automatically with inflation.

Have any of these legislators ever even lived in the real world they're supposed to be representing?

This is the first real test of Bobby J’s governatorship. If he thought that the legislature would simply pass his agenda without a fight he was dreaming. They’re testing him and he’d better show that he can get tough, because it won’t end there.

So, by legislative thinking, they took a 50 percent pay cut, right?

How many of us, during our careers, considered anything over a 10% raise to be, "not too bad"...?

And those Katrina failures wanted to bestow upon themselves a 300% "lagniappe"?

Every SOB who voted in favor of that bill should be impeached and jailed!

I thought they were “full-time” legislators now. Since when do our employees have time to watch TV on our dime?

http://www.nola.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/news-39/1213735474171610.xml&storylist=louisiana&thispage=2

Legislative action was interrupted by baseball action as lawmakers in both chambers erupted in cheers when LSU pulled off a dramatic victory in the College World Series.

A small television sits on each legislator’s desk, and most in the House and Senate were tuned to LSU’s game against Rice. Rep. Regina Barrow, D-Baton Rouge, was at the microphone on the House floor — discussing Flag Day — when many of her colleagues were paying more attention to the game.

LSU trailed 5-3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and Rep. Don Trahan gave Barrow some advice.

“Wait until after this batter,” said Trahan, R-Lafayette.

Barrow continued talking but was drowned out by cheers as lawmakers celebrated the three-run double by Blake Dean that kept the Tigers alive.

In the Senate, senators stood up, cheering and hooting when LSU took the game. Debate on a controversial child support bill was temporarily interrupted for the celebration.

“Mr. President, I thought they were applauding my question,” said Sen. Rob Marionneaux, D-Livonia, whose questions on the bill were disrupted by the applause.

“Fat chance,” replied Senate President Joel Chaisson, D-Destrehan, laughing.

Call Bobby and tell him to grow a set and veto this pay increase:

1-866-366-1121 (Toll Free)

If Jindal vetoes this bill, then he has the people behind him and can get fresher, reform-minded officials in the legislature.

I’m not an expert on the LA political system, but this just seems like a time to take a stand.
