Louisiana: Indicted Lawmaker to Run for Re-election
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: June 18, 2008
Representative William J. Jefferson, a Democrat facing trial on corruption charges, has announced that he will seek re-election to a 10th term. Mr. Jefferson made his announcement in a news release that emphasized his experience and portrayed him as someone who still wielded power in Congress despite the case against him. The last time he ran for re-election was in 2006. The corruption accusations were a persistent problem for him then, but he overcame the odds and won in a landslide. He has since been indicted, and federal prosecutors have also indicted some of his family members on unrelated charges. Mr. Jefferson has pleaded not guilty to charges of soliciting more than $500,000 in bribes while using his office to broker business deals in Africa.

Voters can find you innocent despite what the jury thinks.

Willie Jefferson will be a great cell mate for Duke Cunningham.

Do you think the voters will actually vote him in again? If they do, they deserve what they get.... dumb asses! I have no sympathy for them. They may need help again as I hear LO is not the worse place for more hurricanes.
To: doc1019
Our only hope would be for C. Ray Nagin to take Jefferson out.

If we had a judicial system worth its salt, he would be legislating from a 6X8 cell.

DemocRATS really don’t care if a poll-it-ician is a crook as long as he/she has a “D” after their name. If a Republican is a crook, he/she is a “hypocrite.” If a DemocRAT is a crook, that’s normal.

Jefferson will not be convicted, no matter where the trial is held. He will have a hand picked “OJ” style jury, whether in Louisiana or the District of Columbia.
Cunningham once was a real hero, who lost himself in power.
Jefferson has never been ANYTHING but a democrat machine politician, in other words, a thief.

Maybe a good charter school advocate should run aginst him and his anti-education Democrat Party. Charter schools are THE RAGE in N.O. right now.
