Sadr militia won't (can't) resist Iraq offensive (Smelling Victory in Iraq alert)

AMARAH, Iraq, June 18 (UPI) -- Iraqi officials say radical Shiite militias have agreed to let the government retake control of provincial capital without a fight.

Forces loyal to Shiite cleric Moqtada Sadr have told Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki they won't offer resistance when an expected offensive to take control of Amarah, capital of Maysan province, begins this week, USA Today reported Wednesday.

In a change of strategy, the Iraqi government gave ample warning to Sadr's militia forces they were coming to retake the city, which until recently had been in control of the militants. An Iraqi military official told the newspaper militia commanders decided not to fight and ordered their soldiers to pull improvised explosive devices out of the ground.

The Iraqi official told USA Today that Sadr's forces have indicated they won't resist the military operation in Amarah only as long as the government refrains from human rights violations and doesn't arrest suspects without warrants.

Establishing Iraqi Army presence and capacity to maintain rear guard security when we pay Iran a visit within the next few months.

Resistance was futile.

“We won’t resist” is code for “ain’t a damn thing we can do about it even if we wanted to.”

If it’s not too much trouble, the GOP should LOUDLY remind the nation they wanted victory while the rats wanted to cut and run.

I am sure that the US Military will be getting hand cuffs and Maranda Rights cards printed up so when we reengage, we can read them their rights before calling the law firm of Pierce and Leone to reprtesent the poor victims of American oppression.

They realized the futility of fighting an overwhelming force. They would just have died and the troops would have still taken over. I believe that they realized that in the current atmosphere their goals would be better realized through political means than brutish thuggery.

We could really hammer the libs on this, but that would take Congressional republicans with backbones.

IOW, don't hold your breath.

Plus the fact that Sadr is looking like a fool... I’m in a minority here, but I’m glad we didn’t kill him.. If we did we would have become a martyr. Since he is alive and looking weak that is good for us.. They don’t like weak leaders over there.

GRRRREAT post/thread.

The Iraqi official told USA Today that Sadr's forces have indicated they won't resist the military operation in Amarah only as long as the government refrains from human rights violations and doesn't arrest suspects without warrants.

Sadr's forces sound like a USSC candidates. /sarcasm

human rights violations and doesn't arrest suspects without warrants.

That was sort of humorous, wasn't it. These are the folks who behead, disembowel, amputate, and bomb.

These are the feared...

and they're talking about "human rights" and "warrants."

They must be consulting with Jimmah Cahtuh :>)

I think your ‘can’t’ is accurate. Or shoudl I say, they can’t without being martyred. Amazing how few of the jihadis really want to see if those 72 virgins are for real or not.

“Amazing how few of the jihadis really want to see if those 72 virgins are for real or not.”

THAT IS BECAUSE THERE IS WORD GOING AROUND THAT THE 72 VIRGINS ALL RESEMBLE HELEN THOMAS WHICH IS THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY ARE VIRGINS TO BEGIN WITH.

Bingo. You hit the proverbial home run. Sadr is crippled and now discredited.
Both in Iran and Iraq.

Just wait until he is booted out of Iran. Then we will know that he is even viewed as totally useless to them.

Actually, only with their light (individual) weapons. Yes, those are deadly too, but the government forces will have much greater firepower. This is an important victory.

"The Iraqi official told USA Today that Sadr's forces have indicated they won't resist the military operation in Amarah only as long as the government refrains from human rights violations and doesn't arrest suspects without warrants."

Makes sense. Ahmanutjob and HAMAS endorse Obama, so Iran's little puppet Sadre is ordered to back off and make weird, flatulent noises about human rights. Maybe Sadre will be Iraq's "healing candidate."

It’s a whole lot easier to set off a bomb amidst non-combatant civilians than it is to face off against a trained army.

Subterfuge, deception, and atrocity are their only recourses now.

If the bombing gets pinned on them for real, then I’d expect consequences.
