Why is it heroic when Israel does it?
They may have the guts... but not the firepower or logistical support to fully succeed in conventional airstrikes. Essentially, they will just kick the beehive and hope Iran goes mental... by lashing out at America in Iraq and unleashing their trained monkeys in Lebanon and Gaza.
No matter who starts it, it's a job that must be attended to... and finished.
Please. The Olmert Govt is weak. Nothing in Israel is going to happen until his crises is over. This may be dragged into the President McCain administration, because Olmert is not going any where until January.
Do we have the intestinal fortitude to let them do it. The IAF will have to flyover Iraq to target Iran’s nukes. If we allow them to fly unopposed over Iraqi airspace we may as well do the mission ourselves since we’ll be receiving just as much condemnation as Israel. If I were betting I’d say that the President is about to send Condi back to Jerusalem to tell the Israelis to stand down. Whether the Israelis do stand down depends on whether they believe we will actively oppose their efforts.
Like taking down Saddam? Yep, no guts here.
We are doing nicely thank you both in Iraq and Afghanistan and other terror havens that fall below the radar. Israel could not be more pleased, we are a staunch and reliable Allie ... they owe their existence, in many respects, to the U.S..
Don’t wish that: the only reason the Israelis are as gutsy as they are is the mortal danger they face. No nation with a democratic polity has that kind of self-assertion unless it’s facing destruction.
