"I am surprised the “legitimate” LDS church has not squashed these radicals before now. This does not do the reputation of the LDS church any good. Understatement, I know."

They really can't. The FLDS are living the laws of Joseph Smith and Brigham Young as written in official church books such as the "Journal of Discourses" and "Church History".

The two churches are identical except that the LDS are more ASHAMED of Joesph Smith and Brigham Young than the FLDS, and the LDS have spent much effort to whitewash their stories over the decades.

And people wonder why many have strong reservations, or even dislike, for the Mormon faith. It does have its extreme and cultish features.

Joe Smith didn't ban the color red nor was he against children's toys.

This particular bunch does have some small degree of historic "ties" with the other varieties of Mormons but they look incredibly like some of the smaller, non-Mormon groups they've absorbed over the last half century.

I fear it extends all the way to adequate medical care beyond birthing and broken bones.

Some folks may want to humor the F(lds) who fequent FR, or chide the LDS and RLDS who come here, by arguing the "sameness" of the F(lds) and the others, but I think that's fruitless work (and they all know it).

It's possible Texas pursuit of these folks as though they are a criminal conspiracy may well work out. Utah and Arizona should participate.
