You’re not the only one who was fooled. I knew only what the press releases told me, that he was some new rock-ribbed conservative with the power of persuasion and a bright future. But there were Freepers back then that were skeptical, and predicted that he would turn out to be just another ivy-league, big-government country-clubber. Now, it’s starting to look like they were right. Unfortunately.

It takes effect on July 1 of THIS year.

Yes, he will have broken a promise !

This raise was voted on in an unethical manner.

Jindal admits mistake in not stopping pay raise for lawmakers
by Ed Anderson, The Times-Picayune
Tuesday June 24, 2008, 5:22 PM

BATON ROUGE — A day after lawmakers ended the regular session, Gov. Bobby Jindal said that he made a mistake in failing to block lawmakers from more than doubling their own pay.

The governor, however, repeated his pledge not to veto the raise. Instead, he said he will keep closer tabs on the Legislature’s actions in the future so such issues don’t bubble up again.

“It would be in my own self-interest to veto the bill,” Jindal told reporters a day after lawmakers ended their annual session. “I have learned my lesson: We will keep a tighter rein on the Legislature in future sessions.”

He needs to veto the bill.

It was a campaign promise.

It is unethical for them to vote themselves raises. That is self-serving.

I’m thinking Jindal can only hold out a couple more days. I think he was shocked at the protesters in Shreveport today. These people used to be his supporters and he’s never had this happen to him before. The next protest will be even more contentious and then the next and then the next.

Likely outcome:

95% He will get the legislature to release him from his ‘promise’ to allow him to veto it and then he will veto it.

5% He will stick to his present position, not sign the bill. He will then also lose complete control of the legislature for the next session for not standing up to them on this issue.

Bobby and the Republican legislature have done an excellent job of destroying his vice-presidential chances.

How can you claim to make ETHICS the top issue

and then

Completely undermine the ETHICS in the followup session.

As in - check out SB543. The legislature {through Sen. Quinn and a rubber stamp senate} sought to expand their legislative exemption to the point where they would not have had to answer ANY ethics question while they were in office.

I suppose they are going to claim ‘negligence’ and not ‘intent’ as the excuse for their misconduct.
