With an eye on the fast-growing Hispanic market, State Farm Insurance Cos. will announce Thursday that it will be the lead sponsor of the largest national campaign thus far to encourage Latinos to become U.S. citizens and register to vote. That will make it the first mainstream U.S. corporation to put money behind the massive mobilization effort ahead of the November presidential vote.
State Farm, one of the country's top home and auto insurers, will inject $1 million into the "Ya Es Hora" (It's About Time) campaign. The drive -- backed by the largest Spanish-language broadcast and print media in the U.S., and spearheaded by a nonpartisan outreach group, the National Association of Latino Elected Officials Educational Fund -- could influence the agenda and outcome of the 2008 election.
In addition to the cash infusion, 4,000 State Farm agents who serve the Hispanic community across the country will provide U.S. citizenship applications and voter-registration materials to clients. More than eight million green-card holders, or legal permanent residents, currently are eligible to become U.S. citizens, and the majority are immigrants from Latin America.
Some conservative critics are wary of the campaign because Latinos have tended to support the Democratic Party.

State Farm...a good neighbor? They ‘loan’ laser speed guns to the police - lots of nice speeding tickets written and premiums go way up! What a racket.
That’s exactly what I will be doing.
I’m so sick of this crap.
State Farm not such a “good neighbor”- just a neighbor who is tired of paying claims for horrendous accidents caused by illegal aliens who are also uninsured drivers...
If they are here legally then I think they should be encouraged to become citizens.
So you’d rather them be here illegally, driving without insurance than become a Democrat?
My wife was a claims adjuster and uncovered several "car accident companies" when she was in that business.
Guys would get two wrecked cars, insure them, and stage an accident. Little or no injuries but two totalled cars. She would catch them when they would use the same cars two or three times with different insurance companies.
That company is our major insurer (1 home, 4 cars, 1 RV)and now we may have to consider moving to another but taking a look at some other large insurers, most are in the tank for the dims!
If you have ever been in the military, you have no excuse for not insuring with USAA.
That leaves USAA out any other suggestions?
What's State Farm thinking? Driving without insurance is just part of the culture, and even if they become "legal" only a fool would believe this will lead to more insurance policies purchased.
I’ll be dumping State Farm forthwith.
Who dey? Never heard of this USSA. Do you have a website for them?
Me too. Been with them for years but my agent’s a pain in the a** anyway.
I have all policies save one with State Farm and I have no intention of changing. Great service and rates. I have no problem with encouraging people who are legally eligible to become citizens and vote. Perhaps instead of griping we should point out to them the smarter move is to vote conservative. As for the language issue, get Congress to make English the official language and you’ll have more success getting people to learn English. What State Farm is doing, I think, is largely based on gaining more customers, not party affiliation. One should rather ask why didn’t the Republicans think of this first, and tie in a voter drive with free English language classes and other assimilation help? It’s not a question of pandering or hearts and minds, it’s being practical and proactive.

As to wondering why Republicans didn't seize on the opportunity to register more illegal aliens to vote first, no thanks.
If you and in this country, refuse to learn the language, whether legal or not, I'm not interested in explaining to you in Spanish the benefits of conservatism.
Have a nice day.
I just switched to GEICO because no insurance company is going to use my money to support something that goes against my ideology. This is nothing but a way to get Obama elected...and I will not be a party to it with my money.
Hello little green lizard.
