New Haven, CT (LifeNews.com) -- The Yale University art student who caused a national uproar by supposedly making a senior art project showing her having repeated abortions is slated to unveil a new work in England. London's Tate Modern museum invited Aliza Shvarts to debut a new art project concerning culture and technology.
The student, who graduated in May, supposedly repeatedly artificially inseminated herself multiple times over a nine month period and used medicinal herbs to cause early abortions.
Shvarts supposedly created an art project consisting of the videos of the abortions and plastic sheets covered in her blood.
Yale officials said Shvarts admitted the project was a ruse, but she later denied the claim.
Yale authorities refused to display Shvarts' first art project until she signed a statement saying the installation was a ruse and that she had never been pregnant or had the abortions.
Shvarts refused and quit talking with the student newspaper about the project.
Now, Shvarts is one of 10 artists invited to present works on the relationship between culture and technology. The Tate Modern museum says the exhibit involves "a range of leading thinkers and practitioners" but says nothing about what justifies Shvarts for that status.
Instead, Shvarts may be benefiting from a Yale University connection.
The Yale Daily News includes a new report on the exhibit and Yale art-history lecturer Seth Kim-Cohen says he is curator for the event and invited Shvarts to participate.
"She seemed to be more affected by the media than most of us are in our whole lifetimes," Kim-Cohen told the newspaper. "I thought she would have some reaction to how the media manipulates stories and truths."
Tate Modern representative Bomi Odufunade confirmed to the newspaper the piece is not the controversial project Shvarts made earlier.
Shvarts did not respond to requests from the newspaper to discuss the new exhibit.

When she is 30 years old she will look back on this in horror. How many of you all did stuff when you were 19 or 20 that you wish you had not done? Trust me, this will come back to haunt her, only she does not know it now.

Purposely impregnating yourself for the purpose of aborting over & over & then making an art project out of the blood? I think not that many normal people have something comparable to that. That is something much worse than some regrettable youthful stupidity.
Their belief or disbelief won't matter.
The difference there being that she is doing this of her own volition, but crack and other addicts are ruled, controlled by their addictions.

Ugh. If it's true, and Yale isn't so sure. Even so, cover story or actual events, she doesn't need a debut. She needs a therapist.

Regardless of whether she succeeded or not, she attempted and desired to impregnate herself repetitively for the SOLE PURPOSE OF KILLING THE BABY. I refuse to write this off as normal "young and stupid" behavior.

I think all of us did things in our youth that we would have done differently if we had the chance to do it over. However, DELIBERATLY PLANNING TO KILL BABIES goes far beyond the pale.
I have to agree here. Waking up naked in the middle of the Quad after a night of drinking, Streaking, getting a tattoo, that is regrettable youthful stupidity. Attempting multiple abortions goes way beyond that on the road to loonyville.
Truly, a huge number of those propagandized at the university never look back and regain their common sense. Look around you.
I’m 21 and can guarantee that while I have done stupid things recently which I’m already looking back on and going “What the heck was I thinking,” I have never in my life thought it was a good idea to force a life into being, ingest dangerous substances to end that life, keep the remains of my child, and then repeat the next month in order to display it all (”it all” being human blood, though I doubt she successfully got pregnant) in seran wrap at an art exhibit. Or anything remotely close to that. And I really don’t know anyone who would do anything close to that. I’ve had people think somewhere going towards that level of insanity while drunk but upon sobering up they realize it wasn’t such a good idea.
The idea that she would purposely bring life into being only to kill it is evil. Taking dangerous substances is stupid. An art display involving human blood is unsanitary. If she had an ounce of sense, she wouldn’t have done this and really, it worked out for her didn’t it? Displaying her work in London is probably exciting and a big deal for her. She’s probably not going to regret this, and she certainly won’t regret it if everyone says, “All kids do stupid things, give her a pass.”
