Pat Buchanan: Who's Planning Our Next War?
RCP ^ | June 27th, 2008 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 06/27/2008 10:55:38 AM PDT by The_Republican

Of the Axis-of-Evil nations named in his State of the Union in 2002, President Bush has often said, "The United States will not permit the world's most dangerous regimes to threaten us with the world's most destructive weapons."

He failed with North Korea. Will he accept failure in Iran, though there is no hard evidence Iran has an active nuclear weapons program?

William Kristol of The Weekly Standard said Sunday a U.S. attack on Iran after the election is more likely should Barack Obama win. Presumably, Bush would trust John McCain to keep Iran nuclear free.

Yet, to start a third war in the Middle East against a nation three times as large as Iraq, and leave it to a new president to fight, would be a daylight hijacking of the congressional war power and a criminally irresponsible act. For Congress alone has the power to authorize war.

Yet Israel is even today pushing Bush into a pre-emptive war with a naked threat to attack Iran itself should Bush refuse the cup.

In April, Israel held a five-day civil defense drill. In June, Israel sent 100 F-15s and F-16s, with refueling tankers and helicopters to pick up downed pilots, toward Greece in a simulated attack, a dress rehearsal for war. The planes flew 1,400 kilometers, the distance to Iran's uranium enrichment facility at Natanz.

Ehud Olmert came home from a June meeting with Bush to tell Israelis: "We reached agreement on the need to take care of the Iranian threat. ... I left with a lot less question marks regarding the means, the timetable restrictions and American resoluteness. ...

Hey Pat, why don’t you go right a book on how there was no holocaust until 1942 and how we should never have fought WWII because it was Winston Churchill’s fault...OOPS!

There does seem to be a push for War with Iran. Bill Kristol went as far as saying that if Bush thinks Obama would win, he may attack Iran.

Pat, the only time in your lifetime that congress declared war was December 8, 1941.   I'm sick and tired of hearing that worthless phrase.

I am glad Pat took time from listening to the “Horst-Wessel-Lied”” to write that.

"He (Bush) failed with North Korea."

Huh?! Didn't the DPRK (North Korea) just destroy their own nuclear reactor today? What are you talking about, Pat? Don't they get news there in the Sudetenland? Don't worry, little chicken hawk, President Bush will have all three "Axis of Evil" countries taken care of by the end of his term. Iran will not be passed on to the next president, or I miss my guess.

Hey! It's a catchy tune. I've heard G Gordon Liddy sing parts of it. Says he learned it from the housekeeper as a young lad. If he can “raise the banner” then the tune is okay with me.

The Israelis will attack Iran because Iran poses an existential threat. Iran's leaders call Jews vermin, and vow to exterminate the Israeli nation. Why would Israel wait until the Iranians have a nuclear weapon to make good their promise?

The Israelis will attack after November if Obama wins because the Israelis have taken a measure of the man and concluded that they can't trust their existence to an Obama administration maintaining a credible deterrent. They will have a two month window. The attack may very well come, and the retaliation will be severe. That's why the Israelis will act with Bush in the White House. We will have Israel's back, and the Iranians might think twice about a counter-attack that targets US assets.

Eight years ago no-one would of seriously considered that the U.S. and allies would of been in Afghanistan or on the ground in Iraq...

North Korea a failure? They are dismantling their own nuke plant..That is better that any previous administration.

Before I retired, Whenever someone would ask my section, Intelligence, who we are going to fight in the next war? Our answer would always been "We don't know". No one know, except God.

Pat, you do not know what you are talking about.

I cannot believe I see freepers believing anything DPRK does or says is not totally duplitious and deceptive.

If they gave up the reactor, then one assumes it is because it is no longer necessary to their nuclear goals.

“North Korea a failure? They are dismantling their own nuke plant..That is better that any previous administration.”

Given their history, why assume this constitutes a roll-back of the DPRK nuclear program? They apparently were trying to make a remote reactor in syria, do you believe that is the only place they considered such, and that they may in fact have been able to place a reactor elsewhere which can provide fissile material?

I am baffled that freepers think dprk’s nuclear program will ever stop while the regime survives.

I assume that you didn't hear Bolton on this issue. He claims Bush blew it & I agree.

Oops ... you forgot those against Germany/Italy on 12/11/41 and those against Bulgaria/Hungary/Romania on 6/5/42.

Facts is facts.
