Considering the GOP was resurrected, so to speak, in no small measure in the late 70s, early 80s by Jerry Falwell and Co, I’d be very hesitant to toss them overboard.

I guess all that's left is White states.

Well, checked out the church and their newsletter for the past few months, and it seems like a nice Christians church. They have a global program, and offer daily activities for everyone.
They seem a lot like Joel Osteen, though. In fact, if you were just reading the literature and asked to guess who wrote it you’d say Joel Osteen.

Sounds as though Mrs. Speakman may be many things but "evangelical" or "born again" she ain't.
No self-respecting person of faith could ever support someone like Obama with his anti-Christian values.

The Rev. Susan Junker Speakman, a member of Washington Presbytery, joined the staff of Bethany in January, 2005. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and her Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Seminary near Boston, MA. Rev. Susan was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in 1983 by Pittsburgh Presbytery and has been a pastor of several churches in Western Pennsylvania before coming to Bethany to work in Children's Ministry and Discipleship. Harry and Susan have three grown and make their home in Cecil. She was a pastor at several different churches and then went to Bethany to work in Children's Ministry. So the NY Times article on this has a mistake on the second sentence...Well at least they are getting better.

Not really. Ever heard of a man called Ronald Reagan? He and his ideas about liberty, why govt is the problem not the solution, and the greatness of this country (and NOT that schmuck Falwell) brought the GOP around.
Regardless, the evangelicals, due to their love and lust of govt power and dollars, have alienated almost every segment of what was once a powerful coalition of smaller govt members. Again, let them leave. They won’t and shouldn’t be missed.

I try to engage the other side and try to find ways we can bring the values of the kingdom of God into the experience of humanity. And I guess partial-birth abortions are the way to do that.
To: pissant
I bet this female pastor didn't know that Obama supports abortion and even partial birth abortion. /s

That’s a pretty bold stand around here. FR believes in a higher power and it isn’t Washington.
To: pissant
He [Barack Milhous Obama] also faces significant hurdles in appealing to religious voters because of his tolerance for abortion and same-sex marriage. Tolerance? Tolerance is not voting against partial birth abortion bans.
