Philippines invests in clean coal

MANILA, Philippines, June 30 (UPI) -- The Philippines is pushing for clean coal technologies.

Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes is calling for incentives supporting new technologies including "bridge fuel" to help avert a power crisis in the near future.

Reyes said the government is supporting coal projects that use new technologies that will help to eliminate greenhouse gases.

"I understand that this technology is widely used in many countries, like Korea, Germany, U.S. and Japan. Until such time that the renewables will come in and kick in and really be available on a commercial basis, then we still have to use coal in its cleanest state-of-the-art form -- clean coal technology," he said....

Among the coal plants soon to be put up in the country are the 100-megawatt Semirara project in Concepcion, Iloilo; the 200-megawatt Kamanga power plant of Conal Holdings Corp. in Sarangani, Mindanao; and the 200-megawatt Naga power plant of Korea Electric Power Co. (NYSE:KEP) and Salcon Power Corp.

Clean coal? Don’t these Filipinos know that Harry Reid said that coal is not clean and should not be used.

I picked up a piece of coal when I was a kid and got my hands dirty, there by verifying Senator Reid’s announcement that coal is dirty.

We must not use dirty coal that is propagandized as “clean”. We must end the use of all fuels and go back to walking everywhere and eating only raw food that has not been cooked over pollution producing fire.

Sarcasm R Me

When I was a kid, we heated our house and our church with coal. I remember some dust around the coal bin at the house and around the coal pile at the church, but I used to sit right next to one of the furnaces during church service. I remember it being extremely warm and toasty...and an excellent excuse for dozing off (If I got caught!)

I never got up from in front of that furnace with dirty hands, feet, face, or clothes. And whatever dirty it might have been has not killed me yet. :>)

Since the Supreme Court has decided that we can’t ever build clean coal plants here there are businesses here in the US who would probably be happy to help out the Filipinos. I posted an article here a few weeks ago about a new technology that will be able to scrub 90% of the CO2 from current stacks. Add that in and you’ve got a winner. Too bad we can’t use it.

I’ve got to drive right through the heart of eastern Kentucky coal country this weekend. I’ll be on the lookout for murderous coal roaming the streets.

I hear gangs of coal are all coked up.
