Bingo. I think it's slightly different though. It's not the military service; it's what McCain's story says about the man's character. I think that most Americans cannot hear stories about what McCain endured and not come away thinking, "Holy crap, what that man endured for his country..."

How much has McCain even said about the issue? I don’t pay really close attention to everything on the campaign trail but I can’t recall ever hearing McCain say elect me because I’m a veteran, or was a POW. He says he is proud to have served his country but never has he claimed his service gave him the experience to be president.
Didn’t Webb hit Sen. Allen two years ago for not serving?? His whole campaign was based on his military service, and how important that was now that he broke with GWB over Iraq. Now he is telling McCain not to use the issue? What a hypocrite.

The lead will be “Does John McCain’s temper mean trouble?” Or “McCain’s legendary temper - does it make him unfit?”
