I'm tending to think McCain may be a one-termer. Romney would be the best choice at this point. Though I don't know that McCain will like being liked less than his VP. He's a center stage kind-a guy. McCain is a hero to centrists I believe.
Romney can be more likable and more electable over a broader spectrum of the voters than McCain and even Huckabee. Huckabee has made some enemies in his run. Romney has his baggage, just like any other politician, but all-in-all I think it is less devastating than the baggage McCain has managed to pack for himself over the years.
True a McCain/Romney ticket would be sound in several areas and viable in an election ... and Romney could come out looking better than any Den VP choice in a debate. I don't know if the GOP Nat'l Cmte runs McCain or can it force that choice on McCain. Money backers can force that choice if they are sufficient and this will be a "money November".
But will McCain blink? Will he go for the win or for himself?

I hope he does choose Romney. I like Romney.
But I don’t believe this either.
I’m just so afraid McCain will make a dumb choice that will alienate even his most reluctant voters.
