I’m 19. Back then from what I remember it was mostly indoctrination about polluting the ocean and land fills and such, but they snuck some things in about polar bears and ice caps.

For me a lot of this started with the first "Earth Day" in 1970. Of course growing up in the Buffalo, NY area I also got to see Love Canal and how polluted Lake Erie was at the time... so conservation seemed to make some good sense. I will also say that over my lifetime, the environment really has been much improved and is cleaner than it used to be so it's quite ridiculous to hear people prattling on about the end of the world planet.
