My Wheeled/Tracked Vehicle Mechanic Nat’l Guard daughter has been turned down from deployment twice. She’s needing a break from college, she says, and can get her re-enlistment bonus tax-free if she signs while overseas. Afghanistan didn’t want her ‘cause they didn’t have female-designated barracks or showers ready for ‘em, and Mosul, Iraq only wanted combat-eligibles (males) who could go on foot patrol “outside the wire”.
Whatever their reasons, they’re true patriots, and we will remember and honor them on Independence Day.
I understand the young man’s sentiments...but personally, if I were in his boots, I would not even consider re-enlistment, until I knew who wins the ‘08 election. IOf Obama won, I would not re-enlist...I would not want to stay under a CinC that I could not trust, not to surrender my life and my honor to an enemy, out of political expedience. As Democrats have a history of doing.
