Thank you Jim. Sitting here watching Boston Pops. Though they are from liberal Taxachussetts they still do it better than anyone, especially the circus that happens in my NYC. My mind wanders to two statues that say where we came from more than any others. One in Lexington. The other at Concord. Each depicts an ordinary man faced with extraordinary times. An ordinary American with his own weapon poised to defend his LIBERTY in the company of other ordinary Americans. Wish I had been there. But I’m here at Free Republic and we’re doing much the same thing. So Happy Independence Day to all. God Bless America!!

Hay Jim, I hope you and the family had a GRATE Independance Day!

A few snippets from the Constitution of The United States of America:

Article IV, Section 4:

Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.

Article III, Section 3

Section 3. Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

The folks who wrote and implemented the Declaration of Independence
made an excellent start - but the job isn't finished; it never is.
 
 
CRIPPLE CREEK, COLORADO - The above photo is of a memorial to U.S. soldiers who have fallen in Iraq. 
 
Looming behind and above the memorial are tailings from the active gold mining operation on Battle Mountain.
 
Ironically, Battle Mountain's mining operations are no longer owned by Americans; having been acquired by South African AngloGold-Ashanti in January, 2008 - who, FYI, is a product of the antics of Cecil Rhode's:
 
Cecil Rhodes's first round of diamond mine consolidation with De Beers Consolidated Mines was continued by Sir Ernest Oppenheimer (1880–1957) best represents this phase, with his strengthening of the market power of De Beers and his development from 1917 of the giant Anglo American mining company (whose gold interests are now held by AngloGold Ashanti.)
 
I wonder if the new Battle Mountain Randlords will be expecting baronetcies from the Royal Crown? 
 
Ol' Cecil must be giggling down in hell at winning control over such a prized piece of American soil.
 
I suspect the writers of the declaration of independence would not share his glee.
